Maya POV
I heard a gunshot being fired. I fell to the ground with a searing pain in my chest. I gasped frantically searching for air that had left my lungs. Black dots filled my vision, I tried blinking them away but it was useless because it only caused more to appeared. And the last thing I saw a dark silhouette running towards me and sliding across the floor to get to me.
Xander POV
"Let her go!" I demanded the man who was keeping her captive at the moment. My eyes widen when he undid the safety on the gun. My angel flinched in fright. I heard my brother chuckle lightly. I turned my head in his direction slightly to see only a small portion of his face, facing us. I gritted my teeth and turned my attention back to Maya and my brothers men. Maya pursed her lips and squeezed her eyes shut. I was trying to find a way out of this situation but every solution I came was always death or a severe injuries. I saw Maya raise her leg off the ground. Oh no! I thought knowing she was going to stomp on his foot. I reached my hand out to her wanting her to stop but it was too late. Maya had stomped on his foot and he had let her out of his hold.
She let out a sigh of relief then I saw the man recover quickly and point the gun in Maya's direction. My breath hitched and I ran towards her. But then the sound of the gunshot filled the air. I inhaled hoping that he would miss. The smile on Mayas face disappeared and she fell to the ground. I screamed. Maya gasped almost like she was searching for air. I slid across the ground trying to get to her, and that's when she past out. She wasn't breathing properly. Tears brimmed my eyes as I picked her up bridal style and ran outside and put her in my car and sped off to the hospitals emergency room. Once we actually got to the hospital I yelled at the staff members "Help she's been shot!" Three of the nurses immediately stopped what they were doing and came to my side to assist Maya.
They hurriedly checked her vitals and one of the girl nurses informed the rest of them that 'she isn't breathing properly'. I picked her back up and they led me to a room. I put her down and realized that my shirt and pants were painted with blood. I came to the unfortunate truth that she was dying. I immediately called her parents once I realized that they didn't know she was here. A couple minutes later they came rushing in the room. And her father glared at me. I stood up in a sign of respect but he pushed me into the wall. "Ever since you've shown up she's been getting hurt!" He yelled at me. "I'm so-" He cut me off by waving his hand in front of my face "Don't say it! Just get out!" I looked at the ground and began walking out of the room when I heard a raspy voice call out my name "Xander Damon, don't you dare leave!"
A smile tugged at my lips. I turned around and saw Maya looking at me sternly. I sighed in relief. Her parents rushed to her side and began kissing her face. She looked like she was in pain. And a lot of it. And it was my doing. I looked at her my eyes were filled with sadness. She pushed her parents away and told me to come here. I went to her side immediately after she told me to. Tears were brimming the corners of my eyes. "Did it hurt, when you fell from heaven?" I smirked, happy that she was okay. She rolled her eyes playfully then pulled my face towards hers and kissed my forehead and whispered just so I could hear. "I love you." I replied by saying "I love you too." I rested my forehead on hers as her hand was on the back of my neck.
Maya coughed up blood and the machine beeped. And she released her hand from the back of my neck. I looked up and her eyes were open and glazed over. I let out a cry. And doctors rushed into the room. "Code blue, get the defibrillator at room 35!" They said in unison as they pushed me and her parents out of the room. I watched repeatedly as the they put the defibrillator on her chest that shocked her and her chest went up they down, every time they did shock her to try and get her heart back to it's normal rhythm. But it wasn't working. After about six times of shocking her one of them asked "Should we call it?" And the other doctors nodded. I yelled in anger and frustration "So your just gonna give up?!" "Sir, her heart is not responsive." "Well then make it respond!" I ran my hands through my hair.
"She can't be dead!" I whimpered while leaning my head against a wall "She can't be!" I sobbed and walked up to the bed she was in and put my hand in hers. I could already feel the heat leaving her body. That made me cry even more. I saw her mother out of the corner of my eye grab her husbands shirt and sob into it. And I saw a single tears slide down Mr. Prescott's cheek. I kissed her lips one last time, which made me sob even harder. And with that walked out of the room trying to get away from this terrible scene. Tears stun my eyes as I kept seeing her eyes glaze over and the machine beep. And I finally came to the realization. She was gone.
A/N I legitimately cried when I wrote this chapter. Anyway this is the last chapter of this book. I hoped you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. I want you to write in the comments if I should write another book with Xander in it. And what the book should be about. Thank you for actually sticking around and reading this book I really appreciate it.
