It was luck, pure luck that she even woke up. Not a soul at the hospital even considered the idea of the mystery girl in the ICU would wake up after nearly six months. Yet now her eyes were open and she was just about to pull the IV out of her arm when a nurse entered. He looked at Sable in shock as she sat up in the bed and tried to get away from him.
"Dr. Luxon, she's awake. Our Jane Doe is awake", the nurse called to a tall doctor rushing past the room. Sable tore out the IV roughly and got out of the bed only crumble to the floor. Blood flowed quickly down her arm as she attempted to pull herself from the hard tile floor but was unsuccessful. She moved as quickly as her weak body could take her away from the now growing crowd of people.
"Please don't hurt me", Sable whispered at the nurse.
"Hey, hey, we're not going to hurt you, just tell us your name and we'll get in touch with your people", the nurse told her. She just shook her head and tried to move further away from him.
"Brian, all of you get out please, she's getting overwhelmed by you all", a new voice that seemed to command the entire room commanded the crowd. "I'm Gabrielle, you can just call me Gabby, and you are?", Gabby asked Sable kindly.
"Sable", she replied to Gabby quietly feeling a lot calmer now that there weren't so many men in the room with her.
"Do you have any family Sable?", Gabby asked. Sable nodded looking down so not to make eye contact with Gabby.
"What are their names?", Gabby asked.
"My sister Octavia Winters", that was all Sable said about her family as she stared at the floor and clinched her scarred hands together.
"Well Sable let me help you back to bed and you can get some rest while I look into finding that sister of yours.", Gabby said. Sable flinched at her touch, but didn't have the energy to object.

"Hello, Winter Residence", Octavia said as she answered the phone. She shooed her new husband out of the room and waited for the other end of the line to say something. "Hi is this Octavia Winters?", a woman said to Octavia.
"This is she, may I ask who this is?", Octavia said creasing her brow, confused as to why someone was calling her.
"I am Dr. Gabby Hendrix, do you by chance know an Sable?", Gabby inquired.
"Yes, I do she's my sister", Octavia answered politely.
"Ma'am she is currently in Redwood Hospital and has asked for you", Gabby replied. "What's happened to her? Why is she there?", Octavia asked a little panicky.she hadn't spoken to her sister since the divorce nor seen her father since, but she did love her sister dearly.
"There is too much to say over the phone but she is in room 1144", Gabby informed her and hung up. Waiting for Octavia to arrive.
"Dylan my sister is in the hospital I have to go", Octavia said as she sprinted out the door and jumped into her car. Tears began to fall from her eyes and the only thought was, if I had only been there, I might have been able to save her.

Sable saw Octavia standing in the doorway speaking to Gabby. Octavia was the opposite of Sable. Where Sable was small and curvy Octavia was tall and slender. Where Octavia was blue eyed blonde bombshell, Sable was a short shocking Black haired green eyed beauty. Seeing her again in someway made made her happy, but also filled her with regret.
"I am afraid Sable will have a permanent limp and she has deep scars all over her back, legs, arms, and stomach. We didn't think that she would wake up because she had severe head trauma, she was in a coma for nearly six months. Sable will need intensive physical therapy to regain her muscle", Gabby informed Octavia.
"Why will she have a permanent limp", she asked Gabby. "Her knee has undergone extensive trauma to her left knee, which has made it irreparably damaged. All the cartilage is nearly gone and we had to give a knee replacement because the entirety of the knee cap was shattered.", Gabby replied.
"What happened to her?", Octavia asked now with tears streaming from her eyes. "I do not know Octavia, she will not speak of it", she informed Octavia. Then they entered and Sable, as quickly as her weakened body could carry ran into Octavia's arms. Octavia held her close and and tried to stay composed but stray tears escaped her eyes. Sable held onto her sister tightly and said, "It's my fault Dad's dead". The five words hit Octavia hard but something about Sable's voice caused Octavia to not believe the confession.
"What do you mean it's your fault?", she asked calmly.
"When they took me I went with them even though I knew they would kill dad, but I went anyway",Sable confessed with tears in her eyes. "It's not your fault, that is not your fault", Octavia said and held onto her even tighter.
Octavia stayed with Sable for weeks as she underwent test after test and held her hand through every physical therapy session. They were together through thick and thin, through dry eyes and tears. Sable never spoke of her experiences, or how she got the scars, but they would reminisce about their happy times, and Octavia would ramble on and on about Dylan. Sable was so happy for her sister, so proud that Octavia had found her mate, unlike most who never come close to their mates. Sable was human and she, and a small part of her was jealous of Octavia for being so happy, but the bigger part of her couldn't wait to go home, to meet Dylan, and to figure out how to be normal.
The months in the hospital were filled with a lot of PT and reading. Octavia visited as much as she could and Sable tried to stay busy. Not because she enjoyed doing most of what she did, but because she wanted to avoid free time where she would have to think. Sable now walked the halls with a cane and in a gown and robe. She was always attended to by female doctors and nurses, and always refused to speak to the psychologists that they tried to push upon her. She found it easier to lock it all away that to bear her mangled soul to the world.
"Hey little sis!", Octavia greeted as she ran into the room.
"Guess what", she squealed happily.
"Um you got me extra Jello?", Sable replied.
"No, you're coming home with me and then I am going to get you a better cane", Octavia replied looking at the silver cane with four feet on it with disgust. Sable didn't care about how ugly her cane was, she was just happy that she could be self sufficient now that she could walk, even if she had a heavy limp and wasn't very good with stairs.
Octavia pulled out some clothes and shoes for Sable and left the room so she could change. Sable put on the underwear and then pulled the long sleeve shirt over her scarred body and pulled the pants slowly up her marked up legs. She then put on the socks and shoes and went outside to meet Octavia. They got into Octavia's little red convertible and drove down street. Sable didn't see all the bad in the world as they drove with crappy pop music blasting through the speakers and wind blowing through her hair. All she saw as the sped down the deserted streets were the possibilities for her future and the freedom she had now that she wasn't chained down.
