Lan Xichen

Past-

The morning came faster than it should have, I barely slept a wink last night. The trouble of being the assistant chef for the the professor meant a lot in the culinary world, that too, when you have an uncle like Lan Qiren. No matter how loving he was towards us but when it came to rules, he wouldn't forgive no one if a mistake has been made. Over that, today we start instructing the freshmen, it was even more of an hassle.

With my head in my palms, I sat on the corner of the bed. My head ached but I had no time for it.

Ugh. Today's going to be a torture. I thought.

I dragged myself to the shower and took a long shower with cold water to wake myself up, which helped little. I wore my uniform and made took my time to dry and comb my hair.

"Young master, breakfast have been served." A voice came from the other side of the door of my room.

"I will be down in a minute." I replied.

"I shall inform Master and Mistress." She replied and I heard the footsteps recede.

I took one final glance at the mirror, wore my glasses, picked up my stuff and left the room. I saw my brother at the door as well.

"Wangji, you shouldn't have waited. Aren't you hungry?" I asked knowing that no matter what, he will never change this habit of his.

"Mn." He said and started to walk, I followed until we both reached the dining room.

"Good morning uncle. Good morning aunty." We said.

"Oh my, good morning my boys!" Aunty said.

"You two are late." Uncle said.

FIVE MINUTES. JUST FIVE FREAKING MINUTES.

"My apologies uncle." I said.

"Hmm. Be careful next time." He said.

God help me today.

"Wangji, you start the new school year today. Remember, you are not to mingle with the unruly pupils of your class. They are just distraction." He advised Wangji while munching on his bacon.

God. He is just 18, LAY OFF!

Wangji already has enough trouble as it is to mingle with people and this guy just tries to make that even worse.

"My dear" aunty started with a smile  "please do not speak if you have nothing worthwhile to say. My nephew doesn't need that kind of negativity in his life."

"What?! Negativity?! I am just disciplining him!"

"Yeah. Shut up. He is 18. He is old enough to choose and make the decisions of his life himself. Don't you dare butt in."  Aunty retorted.

Pfft. Take that.

"Zhan Zhan, do as you like. You're a college student now, you make your decisions and choices. If your uncle doesn't support you, your aunty and your brother are here to listen. " She said to Wangji.

"Mn." Wangji said.

He looked happy.

We left for school. Just like usual Wangji and I shared talked about normal things like school stuff and such.

"Brother, you should sleep a little." Wangji said out of the blue.

"Huh?" I was taken aback.

"You didn't sleep last night so you should take a nap while you still can." He said. It was surprising despite being aloof how aware he was of his surroundings. Maybe that's why he was so great at taking care of people around him.
