The Mongols were the only empire to successfully invade Russia.

It was the first thing on my arms in months. I was scrambling to respond and I grabbed my sharpie hastily.

------

You're back! Are you okay?

Love, Clark

I said a tiny prayer to myself that they would actually respond this time. Maybe they would tell me everything that had happened and last year would make sense.

-----

Clark don't you dare write anything in the hand area, I need to be stealthy for this test, we can get to know each other after my world history final is over. Now wash your hands! I have to take this test in 10 minutes!

Kegan

I said their name over and over in my head and then I asked my teacher to go to the bathroom, to which she rolled her eyes since passing period was starting in five minutes.

I took my stuff with me and ran to the bathroom, mad at myself for using sharpie again.

I cleaned off my hand and kept my easily washedoff pen in my pocket.

------

Hey Clark...

Nice to meet you.

I'm Kegan, and yes I passed my history class, even though you waited until minute 8 to erase it. Dude, I'm going to ask you to only write in areas I can conceal with clothes. There was this one couple that had the same teacher for back to back periods and he wrote all the answers on his hand and so they were all there for the test for the soulmate and now they check all our hands and arms.

Do you by any chance go to Harriot HS?

I wandered how Kegan read off the answers from her shoulder, it seemed like a very long and complicated process.

My mind didn't stay in that train of thought too long though, since I realized that we went to the same school! What were the odds?

--------

Dear Kegan,

Yeah I do actually, do you want to meet at the fountain down the road on Monday?

Love, Clark

----------

Yeah dude

Kegan

All these years of anticipation finally caught up to me. I had so much to ask Kegan.

"Where were you all of these years?" Was the most specific one since world history was a junior level class and I was currently a sophomore. Seriously, what stopped her from responding? We could have been friends all of high school, we even went to the same high school! But mostly, I wanted to ask her about that night. The one night that I actually heard from her before radio silence again.

She was such a mystery and boy was I ready for that mystery to be solved.

I headed to the fountain down the street, I knew it was pointless to be having butterflies since that was the one thing I didn't have to worry about, she'd like me for me, that's the whole point of the connection. If she wasn't meant to be, we wouldn't be able to talk through sharpie on our arms.
