Good day gone bad

This was the place.

A clear opening with beautiful tall trees and a picnic area. Flowers surrounded the area, as water droplets fell gently on the leaves. The rays of the sun wasn't directly on us due to the trees, so we didn't have to put our hands over our faces all the time.

It just peaceful, and no one ever came here because the place was so deep into the valley. It was perfect.

"Where do you want to set up?" Asked Nakita as she walked up next to me. I pointed to the middle, "Right there. And once again thank you for helping with this. I really appreciate it." She slapped my head rather roughly, "For the hundredth time today, I said it's fine." I laughed as we gathered the things and made our way to the centre.

When we were done setting up, Clinton came over. "Okay, so you stay here nd keep things safe until we come back, okay.?" I asked, making sure that the plan was still in motion.

"Yeah, just don't take too long. This food smells great and I'm sure you still want some after you arrive."

"Don't you dare." I sneered as I walked away.

Our plan was to set up this not-so-much-of-a-suprise picnic and just spend time together as a family, but first, my mom was going to drop Nakita off at her house and then I would take it from there.

10 minutes later of walking back to the house, we spotted a familiar silver Toyota Yaris.

"Hurry up!" I heard my mother yell out the window as she honked.

"And now?" I asked jumping in the car.

"Nothing, you guys are chit chatting as if we have all the time in the world." She said. Nakita and I just shook our heads as the music came whirling to life.

"I'm gonna see a victory, I'm gonna see a victory, as the battle belongs to you, Lord." I sing as I instantly recognize the song. We used to sing this song in Sunday School.

My family wasn't very religious. Yeah, we were Christians but we didn't go to Church often. Although, every Sunday we played Gospel songs and read the bible together as a family. You don't need to go to Church for God to be with you.

The song finished quickly and by the time I realised where we were, the car had stopped moving.

"We're here." Nakita breathed out. I turned to face her and gave a sad smile, "We'll see each other soon."

"Yeah." We pulled into a tight hug and soon I watching her walk into her house. I waved at her as she looked back.

The engine started and I climbed my way to the front, ignoring the empty feeling in my chest.

"You okay?" My mother asked looking at me wearily. I gave her my best smile, "Of course." I put the past behind me and focused on my part of the plan. We drove off with worship music playing in the background.

🎶Sometimes on this journey
I get lost in my mistakes
What looks to me like weakness
Is a canvas for your strength
And my story isn't over
My story's just begun
And failure won't define me
'Cause that's what my Father does
Yeah, failure won't define me
'Cause that's what my Father does 🎶
