Harry was lying down in his cupboard under the stairs trying to find a comfortable position that wouldn't jar his bruised, and possibly broken, ribs.

He thought about what had happened today, what he had found out, what had gotten him punished.

Harry reached to the loose floorboard and grabbed the book with the worn leather cover. He looked at it in wonder, in hope.

If what this book said was true, harry only had to go through a little under two more years of this torture.

*flashback to that morning*

Harry was awoken by the loud banging on the cupboard door. Then Uncle Vernon yelled, "We are going out for Dudley's birthday. No funny business while we're gone, boy!"

Harry knew not to respond and instead waited for them to leave the house. He waited then was about to walk out when Aunt Petunia called back to Vernon, "I'll be there in a minute dear I forgot my purse!"

Harry was one leg out the cupboard and quickly tried to push himself back into the cupboard. He heard Aunt Petunia walk into the kitchen and get something out of the fridge, which he thought was odd because she said she needed her purse.

He heard her heels, clacking against the hardwood floors and they stopped in front of his cupboard. He held in his breath waiting for her to pass by when he saw the door slowly inching open.

"Here. Take the plate, it's as much as you can have without Vernon or Dudley noticing. Clean the plate and out it back into the correct place when you're done."

Harry was beyond confused. Sure, Petunia never outright hurt him and sometimes it even seemed as if she looked apologetic or sorry whenever he was getting punished but this was different. She was actually doing something for him.

He took the plate gratefully but questioned her with his gaze.

"My sister was an amazing women and we had a terrible fight. I was petty and I will never forgive myself for that but maybe I can try my best to help you when I can. I have been a bystander for too long."

Harry didn't know what inclined to do what he did but he jumped forward and wrapped his small and skinny arms around her.

She made a small noise of surprise but excepted the hug hesitantly.

When Harry pulled back, she had a small smile in her face.

'Petunia! How long does it take to get a damn purse!'

"Coming darling!" she yelled outside. Then she turned back to me and said," Remember what I told you. I'll try to sneak some dinner later too."

He nodded and thanked her as she left. She closed and locked the door, sending a small smile my way.

Harry quickly ate his food, feeling happier, and went to the kitchen when he was done. Harry washed and put the plate away then walked upstairs.

He first went to attic because even if it was the Dursley's house, it would be more interesting than sitting around doing nothing.

He climbed up the pull-out ladder and looked around. He was walking to the window when he tripped. He looked over at what he had tripped over and saw a crib. Interesting he thought. He looked inside the crib and saw a leather-bound book.

He grabbed it and opened up to a page.

July 31st, 1971

I just got my Hogwarts letter! Mom and dad are so proud and said to send my reply as soon as I can. I wanted to write an entry before I sent a reply thought because I promised myself I would. Mom and dad said that it's the best wizarding school in all of Europe. Mom just called telling me I have to send the reply soon. Until next time.

Wizarding school? Harry thought. He kept reading different entries and started to catch on. His dad, and possibly his mother, were wizards? Or witches? He went back to keep reading when he heard the car. He was up here that long? He was supposed to work in the garden! Harry got up and ran.

He threw the book in the secret, loose board and ran out to the garden. He knew he would be to late. Vernon would notice and he would be severely punished. When Uncle Vernon came out to the garden and saw that nothing was done and saw Harry standing there his face turned purple.

He grabbed Harry by the hair and dragged him inside to Dudley's second bedroom. Harry stayed silent throughout everything and just tried to think about what he had gathered from his father's journal.

Once Harry turned 11 he would be able to leave here. He would get his Hogwarts letter and leave. His parents had to have had a vault in Gringotts so maybe he could enter that vault.

When Vernon was done he dragged harry back to the cupboard and through him in it.

*flashback end*

And that's how Harry got here. Harry stayed up the whole night, using the small light above him, to read some more of his father's journal.

<------->

Harry Potter got up at 4:00 A.M on the dot. He quietly tip-toed his way across the cold hardwood floors. He met his destination quickly and opened the white refrigerator. He opened the door silently and was met with a cold gust of air. He quickly grabbed a small piece of leftover strawberry cake from supper earlier that night. He was using it as a celebration and present for himself because in exactly 12 minutes and 46 seconds, he was turning 10. And if the journals he found that his mother and father had kept are anything to go by, he only had one year left until he would get his Hogwarts letter and leave this wretched place. The only good part about this house was his Aunt Petunia and even she couldn't do much to help his terrible situation. Soon, he promised himself. Soon he would leave here and he would be gone for a whole school year.

Soon...

Okay first chapter! It also is my first book so please, don't be to harsh. I do however except criticism because that will help me grow. Now, if you hadn't realized, Petunia is nice in this story. I always felt like she never really hated Lily she was just upset that she didn't have the abilities that Lily had. And I also think that's why she accepted Harry and didn't leave him on the streets. But then Vernon always did something so she really couldn't do much other than just take him in.

And that is it! Tell me if you liked it and if I should continue it or if I should just give up while I can.

Love,
Authoress
