When the students leave her office, Recovery Girl's face twists into one of sadness. She quickly begins moving around the room to get supplies for Bakugou's leg burns, pulling out ointments, bandaging, and pain relievers. Pulling over a cart filled with her supplies, Recovery Girl gets up onto a chair and begins to quickly observe Bakugou, rolling him over gently and peeling away his shirt to get a better look at him. When she lifts his head her eyes narrow when she feels blood begin to cover her hand. The back of his head has a dangerously large gash on it and bruising on the side. On the opposite side from the bruise, some of the blonde hair is singed.
"Oh lord, child, what did you do to yourself this time?" Recovery Girl queries sadly before getting to work, unable to use her quirk on the worn out, rapidly cooling body that lacks stamina.
It takes over an hour until the door of Recovery Girl's office opens. The entirety of Class 1-A—excluding M*****, whom the class would not allow to come—looks to the door with hope and worry in their eyes, everyone having arrived after Sero went to retrieve their teacher soon after the squad's conversation. However, the other students do not know Bakugou's situation, just that he is gravely injured. Aizawa stands in the doorway, having already spoken with the nurse, looking out of the room at his students. He simply nods his head and goes back inside, signaling that the students may follow. Everyone quickly heads into the room, being as quiet and careful as possible.
Kirishima is at the front of the pack of students. He had waited, curled up and anxious, just next to the door for the entire wait so that he could be the first person to enter. He stands nervously, eyes flickering between the nurse and the curtains that are closed around Bakugou's bed.
Once the students have all filtered inside the room, Recovery Girl stands in front of the curtains shielding Bakugou from their view. The elderly woman has a tired but serious expression on her face, looking over each student slowly before beginning to speak cautiously. "I have already informed your teacher of the situation, but I believe that it is important that you all know as well in order to help Bakugou-kun as much as possible." Recovery Girl pauses for a moment, all of the students holding their breaths before the woman speaks again.
"Bakugou-kun has been struggling with many... problems... for a while now. These problems, as well as his quirk overwhelming him, have caused him to feel the need to harm himself using his own explosions." Most of the room gasps and Kirishima's nails dig crescent-shaped marks into his palms as he tenses, staring daggers at the floor. "I will tell you, before going any further with today's situation, that the young man is in a small induced healing coma but still alive—" most of the class begins to whisper to one another at the phrase, seeing the implication that there were chances for the opposite to have occurred.
"Quiet!" Recovery Girl whisper-shouts. The students freeze, looking at the woman in shock. Recovery Girl brings up her hand to pinch the bridge of her nose is exasperation. "Kids, you all need to listen. This is very important," she says, eyes on the verge of glaring at them all. The students nod quickly and the women continues in her explanation. "Alright. When Bakugou was brought here there was a large amount of third degree as well as some fourth degree burns on the inside of his left leg. The back of Bakugou-kun's head has a large gash in it, which bled heavily due to the head's rapid blood-flow rates. There was also bruising on the side of Bakugou's head and some singed hair on the opposite side of the bruises." Kirishima looks up, surprise, at the new bits of information. "Lastly, children, I have a hypothesis on what has happened to Bakugou-kun from this information. Firstly, Kirishima-kun, would you please explain exactly what situation you found Bakugou-kun in?"
The redhead nods as the old woman looks at him expectantly. "Th-there was this big tree he was sitting at the bottom of, between some parts of the trunk that poked out, and he was passed out. Um... on the tree there was some blood and there were a lot of burn marks but one that was way bigger next to the blood..." the boy trails off, looking away. He pauses before saying, "There was a lot of blood..."
Recovery Girl smiles warmly and compassionately at the boy. "Thank you, Kirishima-kun. I understand that that was very difficult for you." Kirishima nods silently in affirmation, still looking at the floor. "Now, this is not for certain, we can only be sure if Bakugou-kun tells us, but I believe that after harming his leg, Bakugou-kun attempted to explode his neck or head." Gasps sound through the room again, but quickly stop at Recovery Girl's sour expression. "I believe that before this, Bakugou-kun somehow slammed his head into the tree, hence the large gash. For what reason, I am unsure. It may have been another way to harm himself, though I have not seen him do so despite knowing of his preference for explosions. However, despite how terribly it came about, I believe that the injury saved his life." Recovery Girl pauses yet again, observing her audiences reactions. Everyone seems to be in shock and their faces also show confusion, though Todoroki only narrows his eyes slightly to convey his own dismay.
A weak question comes from Kirishima's mouth. "How?"
Recovery Girl hums and nods. "It seems that there was a miracle of timing, and just as Bakugou-kun was setting off his larger explosion, he blacked out from the blood loss which was predominantly from his head-wound. The explosion barely singed his hair, hitting the tree when his hand moved minutely from his target, and he fell against the tree, hence the bruising." The students gape at the old nurse.
"Shouldn't you be a detective or something?" comes Kaminari's barely audible murmured question.
Recovery Girl chuckles slightly. "Let's just say I'm in my area of expertise right now. I enjoy it and I help more people this way." Her face becomes more downcast, a grim smile on her face, and she looks at the students with sorrow in her aged eyes. "Would you all like to see him now?"
Most of the students nod while others seem uncertain. Recovery Girl nods in response and turns to the curtains. She slowly draws the cloth open and allows the students to see their classmate. Everyone looks at the blonde in sadness, many covering their mouths at the sight of such a strong boy in his position, but Kirishima is frozen in place. There are chords all around Bakugou, an ominous beeping machine next to him, an IV running into his arm, and a bag of blood that is slowly draining as it is transfused into the boy's body. Bakugou himself is frightfully still and has yet to completely lose the scarily pale complexion from when he was brought in.
Kirishima, almost mechanically, walks over to Bakugou's bedside in a daze. He reaches the boy's side and simply stares down at him, scared that if he were to touch the fragile-looking boy he would break.
He has always seemed so strong. But now...
"Kirishima," comes a voice at the redhead's side. Ashido places her hand on the boy's shoulder. "Remember. He'll be okay," she whispers, though it seems like she is trying to convince herself as much as him, her eyes filled with sadness and glazed with tears.
Kirishima does not reply. All he does is continue to stare down at the still, emotionless face of the boy he loves.
