CHAPTER 1

Sam, Ella, and a Genie

"Hiya there! Can I borrow some sugar?"

And Sam should have known then, when a random red-haired sprite-princess elf queen human goddess appeared on her front door, she should have done more than just stared. But Sam never considered herself to be the smartest or the most sensible person. In fact, she did exactly the opposite of what she should have done for a few long, uncomfortable seconds.

What even is sugar? Who is borrow? Why is 'hiya'?

"Hello?" The tall stranger made from pure stardust and rainbow glitter and the sweetest smelling flower from the orient waved her perfect hands in front of Sam's eyes.

"Why... is sugar?"

Sam didn't mean for her words to come out like that. It was just from the fact that her brain sort of haywired and short-fused. Sam is usually smarter than that. She has a degree in journalism from Boston University. That has to mean something, right?

"Ooohkay, I'm just gonna go now," Green eyes looked at her worriedly before awkwardly waving once more. "Nice to meet you?"

Apparently, her degree didn't mean shit if she became a useless pile of steaming cupcake batter every time a pretty girl talked to her. And so the four-eyed idiot watched as the woman walked away from her property and back to the previously unoccupied house from across the street, throwing her a pitying glance at the door before going inside.

She must have thought Sam was intellectually disabled. And for the record, Sam wasn't so sure she wasn't because her mother once admitted to dropping her on her head when she was a toddler. Sam the bobo racked her brain to comprehend the last several minutes.

"Sugar?" She asked herself, confused.

And then it finally dawned on her. She rushed to her kitchen, hastily grabbing the 5-pound bag of sugar from her pantry and making a run for it across the street. She almost got clipped by a white Sedan doing so. With ragged breaths, she pressed the doorbell and waited patiently for the beautiful stranger to appear before her again.

"Oh hey. It's you again," the woman smiled at Sam through the screen door, though a bit confused. Because in all honestly, who wouldn't be after seeing a panting Cuban woman still in her pajamas, barely 5'3, cradling a mysterious brown bag close to her chest.

"I have sugar."

Her new neighbor finally opened the door and noticed the bag that Sam just casually thrust in front of her. After the initial confused staredown from both parties, the gorgeous red-haired croissant pastry bubblegum flavored cotton candy of a woman covered her mouth slyly and let out a little noise that sounded more like a suppressed giggle

"Thanks, but I only needed like, half a cup," she motioned to the obviously not half a cup amount of sugar that Sam was holding in her hands. Regardless, she accepted the hefty bag from the tomato-red Sam.

It only dawned on Sam just then that the woman's voice had the hints of the cutest Irish accent she has ever heard. And it broke her system again.

"You can have it! All of it. I got some more back at my house if you want, I-"

A light laugh finally came from the taller, more composed redhead. "No, I'm good for like, a month with this. I'm Ella, by the way."

Truly embarrassed by now, Sam gave a nervous laugh of her own before awkwardly shuffling her feet. "I am Sam. I uh, live across the street." Then she pointed back to her house as if the other woman just didn't come from there.
