Doors slammed behind Linda as she stormed through the big house. She didn't even stop to say hi to Gertie, another good friend of hers. "Dad!" She stormed into his office, slamming the door behind her.
He looked up, ready to scold her for yelling. Instead, his jaw dropped, "Linda Rose O'Shea! Look at you! You're soaking yet! And standing on my carpet!"
"What did you do to Robert?!"
"Who?"
"Robert Thompson! The guy who worked on the pool and the backyard. What did you do to him?!"
"I fired him-"
"Why?!"
"Don't you raise your voice at me!"
"You fired him, Dad! He was a good guy! He cleaned and tidied up and cared for the flowers! He respected you! And you got rid of him! Why?"
"I will not discuss my business with you, Linda. Now go dry off or stay outside. Just... get off my carpet."
"That's all you care about? You're damn carpet?!" Linda shook her head, her stance softening, "he was my friend, Dad." She turned and walked away, no stomping or slamming of doors accompanied her this time. She put her sunglasses on, hoping no one would notice that she was close to tears. She sulked back outside, and plunked next to the pool, her feet dangling in the water. She closed her eyes and ducked her head, staring at the cool water. She remembered when she and Robert were cleaning it just yesterday.

"Sure is hot today, huh?" Robert wiped the sweat from his brow, his body glistening in the sun.
Linda couldn't deny she wanted to run her hands over that body. She couldn't deny she wanted to run her lips over that body. Instead, she looked to the sky, huge sunglasses on her face. She smiled, leaning on the scooper. "Sure is." An idea dawned on her; she turned to the pool. "Hey, Robs, what's that?"
"What?" He walked to the edge, standing next to her.
"That little object right there." She pointed to the bottom of the pool.
"What? I don't see—" he was interrupted by a huge splash!
Linda stood on the edge, laughing as Robert bobbed back up.
"Oh!" He whipped his head, his shaggy blonde hair a shade darker, spewing water everywhere.
"At least you're cool, now!"
"Okay, okay. You win." He smiled and waded to the edge. Holding out his hand, he pleaded, "help me up?"
Linda couldn't resist his puppy dog eyes, so she grasped his hand. Before she knew it, there was another huge splash! She gasped for air as she sprung from the water. Once she got her air back, she pretended to look mad. "Ohhh, are you gonna get it!"
Robert faked innocence. "Me? I was just trying to get out. You were the one who didn't stand firm."
"Stand firm? Stand firm! I'll show you stand firm!" Easily, she dunked him, laughing again when he came up. "Who's standing firm now?"
He shook his head, and was about to get his revenge when his smile faded. He reached out and touched Linda's lower lip.
She crossed her eyes to look down, "what?"
"Your lip's bleeding."
"Oh. I must've bitten it when I went it."
Robert easily got out of the pool and pulled Linda up. He handed her a fresh small towel, one usually used to wipe the grime from his hands. He lightly dapped the soft cloth against her lip, then pulled back.
"There," he smiled, "all better."
Linda smiled softly, as well, seeing something she hadn't seen before. She tilted her head, reading his eyes. When his head titled the other way, and his thumb brushed her lip, she got encouraged. She lightly pressed against him, and kissed his wet lips. She sighed into the kiss, letting Robert slip his tongue into her mouth.
The kiss was on the longer side, and both young adults were smiling.
"That was nice," Linda said, still in a daze.
"Mhmm. Maybe we should do it again?"
"I'd like that."

"Linda!"
