It was four thirty, which meant Danny was packing up for the day. He tossed the tools into the back of the truck, his mind clouded. He knew Linda was pissed at her situation, but he didn't think she'd actually run away. He had an idea of where she went to, but he was still surprised at her reaction.
"Donnie!"
Danny hung his head, not wanting to deal with Cecilia. "Yes?" He answered, trying to disguise his annoyance.
"Are you sure you don't know where Linda is?"
"If you want to find her so badly, why aren't you out there looking for her?"
"Well, I- Uh-"
He rolled his eyes, "I've told you everything. I have to go now." He climbed into the truck and slammed the door shut. He actually smiled when Cecilia jumped backwards.
************
"Are you sure you want to-" Laura was cut off by the knocking on the door. She called to the servants, "I'll get it!" Turning to Remington and Linda, she stated, "excuse me." When she opened the door, her eyebrows shot to the top of her head. "Danny! What- what- how-"
"It wasn't easy," he nearly grumbled.
"Uh," finding her mind, Laura straightened and stepped aside. "Would you like to come in?"
"Thanks."
"What brings you by?"
"You wouldn't, by any chance, be harboring a sexy blonde, 'bout five six, blue eyes, running from her life, now would you?"
"Laura, who is-" Linda stopped in her tracks when she saw Danny. She smiled widely, but it quickly faded away.
Danny noticed how her stance went from friendly to defensive. He furrowed his brow, wondering why she stiffened.
"I'm not going back. Nothing you can say will make me go back."
"Linda, you're just pissed-"
"Don't tell me how I feel! My father does that."
"I'll, uh, I'll leave you two alone," Laura stated awkwardly, side stepping away.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to piss you off." Danny shook his head, wondering why he was rooted in place.
"I'm not pissed off- I'm annoyed."
"I think those go hand in hand."
"What do you want, Danny?" Linda sighed, feeling her wall breaking. She didn't want to go back, she wasn't going back. But if he kept looking at her like that- with those hazel eyes and that damned pout- she was going to abandon her moral.
"You're obviously not in the mood for reasoning, so I won't try an' convince you. I just came by to make sure you were safe."
The blonde's shoulders relaxed, "really?"
He sighed, looking down, "Look, Linda. I... I care about you. In a complicated hard-to-articulate kinda way." He looked up sideways at her.
All her angry feelings melted away as she walked up to him. Tilting her head, she put her hand on his shoulder; she kissed his lips, her eyes fluttering closed.
Danny's hands instinctively wrapped around her waist, his breath mingling with hers. He parted his lips for her probing tongue; he felt all his muscles relax as she controlled the kiss.
The kiss became quite heated before Linda pulled back for air. "I care for you, too. Only I know how to articulate it. You're my friend, Danny. I feel like I can talk to you about any sorta shit that comes into my brain. I wanna be with you, and I can't stop thinking about you all the damned time." At this point, Linda didn't know what she was saying.
"Linda, Linda." Danny said quietly, "Linda. You're babbling." He kissed her lips once again, stopping her babble.
She smiled after pulling away, "but I'm not coming back!"
"I'm not asking. Now that I know you're safe, I can rest easy. See ya here tomorrow at the same time?"
Linda nodded, "sure."
