~Trying to get to your heart~

Y/n POV

I wake up to the sun shining through the blinds. My heart wasn't hurting right now, but it was only a matter of time before I get worked up again.

I roll over to see the sheets next to me folded over eachother. For some reason I was disappointed Alec wasn't laying there.

I splashed some water on my face, then walked out and followed the savory aroma coming from the kitchen.

Alec had his arms over the couch, facing his mom who was making  breakfast in the kitchen.

"Hey! Good morning y/n!" Alec said as a big smile grew on his face.

"Morning." I say back to him. I was still struggling to keep my eyes open.

"Morning Mrs. Benjamin." I looked at her with a genuine smile. Alec's mom is so sweet, AND a great cook.

"Morning hun." She replied, "I heard you're a big fan of French toast."

Whenever Alec, Sawyer, and I go out to eat I order French toast. He knows it's my favorite. I turn around and look at him. He has an accomplished look on his face.

After breakfast I sit down on his couch. My phone buzzes in the pocket of my hoodie. It's Sawyer.

"Hey y/n. Feeling better at all?" He spoke quietly. I could tell he just woke up.

"Yea actually. I went to Alec's house because I had no one else. He helped out quite a bit."

"Ok good. I was starting to get worried. I feel so bad I can't be with you. I'll give you the biggest hug as soon as I get home."

"Thank you Sawyer. Love you."

He hangs up after an I love you too.

Alec reaches over the couch and taps my shoulder. He nods his head towards his room. I stand up and follow him.

He shuts the door behind us.

"How are you feeling today?" He asks. For the first time, I notice the genuine concern in his eyes.

"Better." I say as I look down.

"Y/n I'm sure it's hard to try and start putting this behind you so soon." I look back up again. His stare was soft.

"Dont remind me..." I shake my head.

"Hey what do you say we go do something fun. Let's get your mind off this." His eyes widen as he perks up.

"Alec I can't do anything when I look like this!" I look up at him with a fake smile. My eyebrows still showing I was sad.

He looks at me, completely perplexed. "What do you mean?"

"Uhhh Alec, I haven't showered in almost 2 days, I just cried for an entire night, and this outfit makes me look 10x worse." I reply, a bit annoyed.

He looks me up and down, then says.

"I think you look gorgeous."

I'm taken aback by the bold statement my friend just made.

Alec's POV

Wow. I couldn't have been any more obvious than that. It was true though. She looks adorable standing there in her baggy, grey, sweatpants. I love the way her y/c/e(your color eyes) sparkle even after she has been crying. The way the sleeves of her hoodie cover her hands. I want her. I want y/n.

"Alec." She starts to smile.

"Oh- um- uh so what do you wanna do?" I realize that I was staring at her for a while. I felt my face turn red.

"I kinda want ice cream."

She sinks into her hoodie. I laugh. It was adorable.

"Well come on let's go to the store then!" I grab my keys from the nightstand.

"Can I at LEAST take a shower first?" She looks at me, hoping I say yes.

"Fine. Whatever hurry up. There are towels in the cabinet." I smile at her. I wasn't as annoyed as I sound.

Y/n POV

"Thank you Alec."

I open the door to the bathroom only to realize I never brought any extra clothes.

"Aleeeeec?"

"Y/nnnnn?" He replies nonchalantly, laying on his back.

"Have any clothes I can borrow?" I giggle when his eyes widen.

"I have a whole closet..." he sighs.

Something was different about Alec. It wasn't bad at all. Things were just... standing out to me today like they never had before.

I walked over to his closet and opened it up. I grabbed one of his many pairs of sweatpants and a red t-shirt. Then I walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind me.
