days till wedding: 31

ian quietly thanked the waiter who sat his drink on the table and continued to look around the space around him. he was sat at a glass table in a large garden. people were everywhere, sitting, standing, while talking and laughing loudly.

in exactly one month ian was going to be marrying some girl he didn't even know. this whole party was set up with the purpose of introducing the two families. ian did not want to be there.

and neither did jaden, who was trying to find somewhere to sit alone. there were no empty tables, so he decided to sit down at the table ian was sat at. he'd rather sit with one person than five people.

ian watched the tall brunette walk towards the table and sit down across from him. he was wearing a gray windbreaker, a white t-shirt, and a gold chain. simple and plain.

"trying to hide from everyone?" ian guessed, taking a small sip from his drink. "or maybe someone in particular?"

jaden looked over the stranger. he was wearing a floral button up and a gold chain. his dreads were messy, and he wore a pair of glasses.

"just everyone," jaden shrugged. "i really don't want to be here. i don't even know who my sister is marrying."

"that would be me!" ian chuckled, raising his glass up. "god my parents love me."

ian quickly downed his entire drink while jaden watched him. ian's eyes were dark and his voice was slightly raspy, which told jaden that he had probably been drinking all night. but, he wasn't slurring his words, which told jaden that this was a usual thing.

jaden tilted his head slightly to the right, "what?"

ian waved over a waiter as he leaned forward, "listen your sister is pretty, nice, and all that junk. but she's not my type."

"what is your type then?" jaden asked, watching him take two shots off a tray.

"guys," ian laughed and then did the first shot.

"so why are you marrying my sister?" jaden asked, slightly annoyed.

"are you stupid?" ian laughed. "it's called an arranged marriage."

"my parents agreed to that?" jaden thought out loud. "they aren't like that."

"guess you don't know your parents," ian laughed. "it's one of my family's long standing traditions. a two for one deal, ya'know?"

jaden shook his head, "no i don't know."

ian rolled his eyes, "it breaks my parents hearts that their oldest child and only son is a faggot. they fucking hate me. so this way, they honor the family tradition while also re-affirming to themselves that their son is completely straight."

"which sucks but there's really nothing that i can do," ian mumbled and the took his second shot.

"well you don't have to marry her," jaden shrugged. "that's something you could do."
