The next day after Mass, Pauline and I walk home with Jane. We haven't seen her in a while. So that we aren't late back home for lunch, we run all the way there, and catch six thieves in the process of robbing the house. Pauline, always the prudent one, runs for the police officer at the corner, and soon the thieves are caught, the police get Jade's location from them, and Pauline and I walk home carrying him in his cage. We also have Stepmama's necklace and Father's watch. That's what I call a good day's work! And Jane's father is so pleased, he gives us each a dollar!
The summer is almost over, and Jade seems very ill. We are all praying to St. Philomena and a few others to cure him, because he is only five years old and we love him so much. We will miss him if he happens to die.
Mrs. Lory is making preparations to move to Switzerland with François and Roger. She must still feel sad that she hasn't yet found Simone, her daughter. I saw that her eyes were red that night when she overheard François telling Pauline about that Celine girl on the train. I for one think she gave a false name. Poor Mrs. Lory! She has had so much sadness in her life. And no one in the world, except her, knows why she and her children were separated in the first place.
I personally am glad that the robbery was found out so soon. However, we are all so worried about Jade. Hopefully the robbers didn't give him something...
