Matiss is an Enfield, which is a mythical creature made up of fox, lion, eagle, and wolf. In Irish lore, they protected the bodies of fallen warriors from desecration. They represent intelligence, honor, valor, and fierceness in battle. They were deeply respected because of their ties to death, which the old Irish took very seriously.

Tokiwa is a Sanbi no Kitsune, otherwise known as a three tailed fox. In Japanese lore, before the stories about them luring men to their deaths, these were animals of wisdom, highly revered for their connection to the celestial plane and heaven itself. Kitsune have a number of tails according to age. They gain a second tail at 100 years, and have nine by the time that they reach 1000.

These are the rough drafts of the two main characters. Matiss wildly loves fun and pretty much does whatever he wants to. Tokiwa is really uptight about things, but extends manners and knowledge to anyone with the patience to listen. When they end up as neighbors in the forest, everything goes downhill.

Anyways I think I'm going to start this comic soon unless literally no one shows interest. In which case I'll just go flush my head in the loser toilet and scrap the whole idea. :')
