I heard the creaking of your kitchen table. Groaning, I rolled over in bed. It was 8:36 on a Saturday morning. Fine, I'll get up. I threw the covers off of me and slid out of bed. I slumped down to the kitchen, down the stairs from my room. My Dad was already there on his computer. "Morning sweetie." He said, smiling. I tried to respond, but only mustered a grunt. I opened the fridge and grabbed some milk, cereal from the pantry, and a bowl from the cabinet. I had breakfast, got dressed, and brushed my hair. I looked in the mirror at myself. I wasn't a sight to behold. (h/l), (h/c) hair, greasy despite my attempts to wash it. I wore layers to hide the shape of my body, which I didn't find attractive. Pimples dotted my face, which I knew was normal but I was ashamed of anyway. Hey! Quit thinking about that, you're pretty, I told myself. Appreciate your hair, healthy skin, clothes on your back. Wait... Something's missing. I hopped into my bedroom and grabbed my favorite necklace. I wore it every year, every December from the first to the 31st. A tiny pyramid of silver balls on top of a silver bell, held by a velvety red cord. Stacked high up the cord was charms of every kind. I started the tradition of getting a special one every year, including a (favorite animal), a (symbol), and Anime logos. Among them were Hetalia themed charms; an anime I had been obsessed with for a while now. I smiled, remembering my favorite episode, and pulled the necklace on. It chimed as it swung through the air and settled on the bottom of my ribcage.
Now fully awake, I skipped through the house. It was only 20 days until Christmas, and more importantly it was the day of the annual Lighted Boat Parade downtown. The moment the sun goes down, sailboats and kayaks and motorboats decked in Christmas lights and boaters in costumes parade up and down the harbor, blasting carols and cheering. It was one of my favorite traditions, sitting on the beach and pointing out my favorite ones to my family. We had some errands to run, and the whole day I hummed "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", no one else knowing that the Hetalia parody lyrics were running through my head. I skipped through the store and marched down the sidewalk. Soon we would be heading to the beach!
