Finally!! Five O'clock!! The parade started in an hour and a half and we were on our way to the beach to play before it got dark. I broke out into full out song lyrics, "Hark he Herald Angels Sing", and my Dad joined in. We approached the beach and I practically shot out of the car. I ran down the beach and jumped in circles with my arms out like I always did when I was excited. And with my friends or family, of course. I'd be way too embarrassed otherwise.
My dad set out a towel with lawn chairs, blankets, and thermoses of hot cocoa. There were some other people here early, too, so I decided to go play on the rocks where I saw another kid who looked my age. I just saw his silhouette at first, but as I approached, I saw he was wearing a Santa Claus outfit. Wait, he had light blonde hair too... It was a Finland cosplay! "Um, hi." I said. The boy turned around. Wow! He was wearing purple contacts too, he was all out with this costume.
"Hi!" He said. Accent too!!
"I like your costume." I said, beaming from ear to ear. It's not every day you find this dedicated of a Hetalia fan, especially in my town. "What's your name?" I asked. He got up from the rock he was sitting on.
"I'm Tino." He smiled. I laughed. He didn't even know if I was a fan and he was making references already! "What's so funny?" He tipped his head. He was just as cute as Finland too!
"Nothing, nothing." I straightened my back from laughing, making my bell jingle. 'Tino' looked at it in fascination.
"I like your bell." He seemed to really enjoy it.
"Thanks!" We hopped down the rocks and jumped into the sand. I kneeled down in the sand and began piling up sand. 'Tino' sat by me curiously. I piled and dusted off sand in the outline of a Christmas tree. The boy brightened up and began helping me. We stroked pine needles in the art with our fingers, patted down round ornaments with round hands, and finally, we finished. Sitting here on the beach was a giant sandy Christmas tree, as big as one of us laying down, detailed and three dimensional.
"It's awesome!" My new friend cheered.
"Heck yeah!" I looked him in the eyes and smiled.
"You have pretty eyes." He said, calmly. "N-not to be weird or anything..." He hurried, blushing a little.
"That's okay, I get that a lot." People told me my eyes were pretty with no intention of flirting with me. I laid down and looked up at the sky. It was beginning to become tinted orange. I gasped. I loved sunsets on the beach, especially here, where I could see the lighthouse silhouetted against the magenta sky and the water glistening below. I got up. "Come on!" I galloped from rock to rock, back up the harbor edge, and settled on a big flat one with my hands behind me holding me up. 'Tino' sat beside me with his legs folded. "Beautiful, isn't it?" I sighed. The colors shifted shades from blue, to orange, to pink across the sky. We laid down and watched, in complete silence and bliss. The clouds stretched across the canvas of the sky, becoming dark shades of hot pink, tangerine, and finally they faded away to show a pure midnight blue. I thought about the boats coming by soon with a content sigh. And my brother could see that one that always puts up Dolphins- wait... My brother? I shot up in a panic. My new friend stood up with me.
"What's wrong?"
"I am so sorry! I have to go!" I grabbed my coat and began to sprint. "My dad'll be worried!" I shouted back at him as I ran off down the beach, my bell bouncing and jingling like mad the whole way.
