Luke’s P.O.V

Elizabeth Xander you are under arrest for the kidnap and sexual abuse of Luke Hemmings and Emelia Smith, put down the baby and put your hands up in the air” An Officer says in a stern voice.

“Miss X” starts leaning down to the ground with Hazel in her arms, it looks as if she is placing her down.  Something’s not right. It shouldn’t be that easy. I start to get an unsettling feeling wash over me, my gut is telling me something is off.

“Miss X” then grabs something out of her shoe and points it at Hazel’s head. Shit that’s a gun. My lip starts trembling, my eyes start to weep and it feels like my heart just fell out of my chest. That’ my daughter, my little innocent Hazel. I feel so helpless and scared in this moment, what a shit parent I am, all I want to do is be able to protect Hazel.

“Leave us alone or I will pull the trigger” “Miss X” says. My jaw drops and I look around the room at the officers for help.

“You know we can’t do that” an Officer says, stepping closer to her. Fuck what are you doing?? His going to get my daughter killed. A tear slides down my cheek.

“Okay fine then” “Miss X” replies and presses her thumb onto the trigger.

I squeeze my eyes shut and just pray, I pray that someone somewhere can help my daughter. I do not want to watch this.

I hear a loud gunshot go off and I guess my prayers weren’t answered. I drop to the ground and huddle into my knees, still clinging onto my shoulder with my left arm and sob heavily. Why Hazel?? She was only 3 days old for god sake. She was meant to live a long happy life, I should have been in her place… what type of father am I???

“Luke?” an officer says and I look up at him and notice something placed in his arms but can’t see clearly as my vision is blurred from my tears.  I hear a cry from someone else, sounding as if it is coming from an infant and that’s when I notice the object in his hands is a baby.

Wait… that’s my baby!! I quickly grab Hazel out of the officer arms with my non-injured arm and hold her close to my chest, kissing her forehead. My baby is ok. I rock her back and forth to lull her cries and stare at her in awe.

I then take a quick glance around the room and I notice “Miss X” lying on the ground motionless with a bullet between her eyes.  Thank god they shot her before she had a chance to with my daughter.

“Luke, we need to take you to the ambulance so you can get your shoulder checked out?” The officer says to me.

I just nod and grip onto Hazel tighter while walking outside the house, I am never going to lose my little girl again.  I walk up to the ambulance and a male and female paramedic approach me, and tell me to get in. I sit down on the bed and the ambulance starts the drive to the hospital.

“Sir I am going to help you with your shoulder, can you please pass your baby to the other paramedic, she will give your daughter a quick check up, just to make sure she’s ok” the male paramedic says to me.

I look at Hazel timidly, I do not want to let her go.

“I will be right here sir, she won’t be out of your view” the female paramedic says and I reluctantly hand Hazel over.  The female starts getting a few equipment out to run a couple of tests on my daughter. My glance is forgotten about when I hear the male paramedic talk to me and so I turn to his direction.

“The gunshot is just a surface wound so no damage has been done, I am going to give you a needle to help with the pain and then pull the bullet out” he says which I nod in response.

He then grabs the needle and pushes it into my vein, I grimace at the slight sting. The pain in my shoulder starts to subside and soon it feels numb. He then pulls the bullet out using some medical equipment and bandages my shoulder.  Once he is done the female paramedic turns to me.

“She is 100% healthy and all good to go home” she says, handing me back Hazel.

I hold Hazel into my chest and the ambulance arrives at the hospital.

I exist the vehicle as fast as I can and walk through the hospital halls and towards Emelia’s room.  I walk into her room and her eyes widen at the sight and her mouth forms a massive grin as soon as she sees Hazel in my hold.

Hazel!!” she says in amazement and I walk to the bed passing Hazel to her and sit next to her on the bed, pulling her into my chest.

“I love you Luke” she says to me while staring at our baby to which I reply;

“I love you more Emelia”.

Happiness washes over me right now and I stare at the 2 people who are my world.

If something was ever to be described as perfect it would be this moment because of them, my family.
