'Mr. Nobody's' Playlist

One of my favourite authors, Veronica Roth, did something like this at the end of her book 'Divergent', so I thought that I would do one too.

This book would be absolutely nothing without its soundtrack, and so I'm paying credit where it's due.

Lovely by Billie Eilish & Khalid
This song was playing the moment that the idea for the book came to me. I imagine it as both Robin and Nobody's song.

Key lines:
I hope some day I'll make it out of here.”
“Something's on my mind, always in my head space.”
“Hello, welcome home.”

Hurricane by Halsey
Certain lines in the chorus describe how reckless and how much of a liability Nobody was in Robin's life (as she sees him).

Key lines:
“I'm the violence in the pouring rain.”
“I'm a hurricane.”

Control by Halsey
This song set the tone of the book, especially in the Prologue. It's also Nobody's song as he actually is and other parts of it describe Robin's experiences.

Key lines:
“My mind's like a deadly disease.”
“I've grown familiar with villains that live in my head.”
“They beg me to write them so they'll never die when I'm dead.”

Please Notice by Christian Akridge
This song is the basis of Jesse and Robin's relationship. It voices his love for her, which is unrequited.

Key lines:
“Do you know how in love with you I am?”

Conversations With My Wife by Jon Bellion
This song best describes how Jesse feels about Robin and her situation. He's madly in love with her and longs, more than anything, for her to wake up from the mess that she's in. His 'wife', who he could spend forever with. Listening to this song breaks my heart, I feel so bad for Jesse.

Key lines:
“They'll say that I fell off and it's alright.”
“We'll both get lost - me and you inside real life.”

In My Head by Ariana Grande
I take inspiration from all over, I've never stuck to one genre. What I found with this song was that the singer placed an upbeat tune against painful lyrics. Not all of this song is relevant to the book but it played an important role in helping me see how Robin sees Nobody: as a villain painted hero, but she's the one who painted him.

Key lines:
“My imagination's too creative. They see demon, I see angel.... Without a halo - wingless angel.”
“I had a vision - seeing what isn't there.”
“...But I never thought you'd leave me.”

New Americana by Halsey
The melody of this song is traced with rebellion and wildness. It represents Robin and Nobody's relationship and the times they would have spent together.

Spirits by The Strumbellas
The song for Les Rêveurs.

Key lines:
“I'll be a dreamer 'til the day I die.”
“... We're all strange and maybe we don't wanna change.”

All We Ever Knew by The Head and The Heart
This is my end song. The song that plays as the screen goes dark and the credits roll. I imagine it from Jesse's POV.

Key lines:
“...She's only in dreams.”
“... It's time to wake up from this.”
