<Kaycee POV>

June 1st

Today was June the first, which meant that there were officially only 4 days left until the lunar eclipse. Squeeee. I was beyond excited. And the fact that Sean agreed to stay up and watch it with me made the whole thought so much better. I may have gotten crazy looks from my family since I talk 24/7 about it but what do I expect.

I was sitting at the counter when I saw my mom appear from behind me while pressing a small kiss on my cheek.

'Hey honey, I'm gonna head out for work. Make sure to load the dishes and give Kino and Lulu a bath, okay. Don't forget' my momsaid sternly before walking out of the kitchen.

'I got it, don't worry' I said before loading the dishwasher and running upstairs into my room. I'll give the dogs a bath later, they won't mind. Scrolling through my discover page on Instagram, I found so many eclipse and astronomy ccounts and I followed a bunch of them. Some may say that I'm being slightly over the top about this whole thing, but they don't understand how much I love these kind of things.

You see, I've always been into astronomy, thanks to my granny. She always told me stories about the stars and the moon.

*Flashback*

Kaycee aged: 9

Kaycee and her Nana were lying on the grass. It was a hard day for the two of them . Kaycee's Grandad had just passed away and Nana had been silent all day.

Kaycee was looking at Nana while she looked up above to the little dots in the sky.

'Are you okay, Nana'Kaycee whispered.

'Of course I am dear' Nana replied keeping her gaze fixated on the stars.

'What are you looking at?'

'The stars my dear, aren't they beautiful?'

'I mean I guess, I've never really looked up at them properly before'. Kaycee aid slightly embarrassed

Nana sat up straight as she pulled Kaycee up with her before speaking.

'Let me tell you something dear...' Nana spoke with love engraved in her voice. 'Do you know why I loved your grandad so much?'

Kaycee shaked her head carefully as she placed a hand on top of her Nana's.

'It's because he didn't promise me the stars and the moon like everyone else did, all he did was promise me that he'd lie on the grass and be with me everytime I watched them. And that's enough for me ' Nana said, a tear escaping her eye. Kaycee slid her finger across her Nana's cheek as she wiped it away.

'Wow, I hope I find someone who'll do the same for me' Kaycee said .

'You will dear' . A silence fell upon the two girls. 'And one day I won't be here with you but the stars always will' .

'You'll always be with me Nana, I don't want the stars, I want you.'

'Well Kaycee... Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy' Nana said cuddling Kaycee closer.

Kayce giggles lightly as she let out a sigh. 'Why do you love stars so much, nana'

'Don't you see Kaycee? Look at the stars. They're the same as when you were a little baby. They're the same as when I was a little baby. In a million years, no one will know who we are... but they'll know, those stars will always remember us,'

'Do you think Grandad will ever come back?' Kaycee spoke fearfully with a hint of hope and desperation.

'Many miracles happen Kaycee, but right now, your grandad is up there looking down at you. Guiding your way'

'I don't believe in miracles' Kaycee huffed.

'We live in a blue and green planet that circles around a ball of fire next to a moon that moves the sea, and you don't believe in miracles?' Nana chuckled. 'Kaycee honey... I want to make sure that you'll always come to the stars first if you need any help. They'll always guide you on the right path. Always stay connected to the moon,K, they'll help you in your darkest hours' .

'I will Nana. I'll do it for you' Kaycee spoke confidently, giving her Nana a loving hug.

*Flashback ends*

I had been dreaming about stars until I was interrupted by a buzz from my phone. It was my mom.

Mom❣️

Hey honey, just wanted to remind you that we have a family game night with the Lew's on June 4th, so don't make plans for then.

                                                                                                           Kaycee ❣️

                                                                                           Okay cool, thanks

So that's how things were going to go. We had a game night with the Lew's on June 4th and it'd be most likely that I'll sleep over there. Then we'll probably hang out in the morning on June 5th, then we can watch the lunar eclipse at night  over at his house. Perfect. What could possibly go wrong?

AN- SO DEFINITELY A SHORTER CHAPTER THAN USUAL. BUT I HONESTLY THINK THAT THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVOURITE CHAPTERS SO FAR.
