With a basic black backpack on my back, I enter Richmond High school. Knowing this is going to be hell, starting over again, I mean. With today being my first day. Not knowing anybody or the way to all the classrooms OR even where the bathroom is. Also not knowing what books I need for the lessons. Note, I didn't pack any and in my backpack is mostly pencils, an eraser, bottle half full with water and a cheap sandwich I bought at a store on my way here.
My mum wanted to drop me off in front of the school, told her not to. I'm starting fresh, with a clean slate. Definitely did not want to start with being called 'mamma's boy'. I love her, don't get me wrong, but I do want to make a good impression. On my first day, as a new kid. I did not tell her, obvious did not want to hurt her feelings.
After talking to the woman in the front desk, I enter a long hall with doors on both sides. The third door on the left was supposed to be open and that was where the headmaster would be. I enter the room and there he is. A tall man that is clearly balding. His suit dark blue and his tie white with light blue stripes. ''Ah, welcome Michael Clifford, take a seat.'' he gestures to the two seats next to where he is standing. ''My name is Orlando Thompson.'' He says while taking a seat in front of me.
''I know that a new school can be scary, I've been to multiple high schools as well, since my dad had to move a lot for his work. But don't be shy to ask anything if you have trouble fitting in. I will be here for you and we have a student that is there for you and will give you a tour to school today. He will be here in a few.'' Mr. Thompson says, mostly to comfort me, that I feel welcomed. The door opens behind me and I turn my head. The boy that is standing in the doorway is wearing a red t-shirt and his hair falls over his forehead, covering one of his eyebrows. ''Hiiiii, I'm Ashton Irwin! Welcome to Richmond High school'' the boy named Ashton sounds very excited to have me here. ''Good, boys, I'll leave you to it now. And if you have any questions.. I'm here.'' Mr. Thompson flashes me a smile and Ashton I walk out of his office.
"You got your school schedule right?" "Yep" "You also got the books delivered to your house, right?" "Yep again" I nod at him. Please don't ask what I brought with me. "So which ones do you have in there" he looks over at my backpack. Crap. "Uhh.." I start. With my hand on the bottom of my neck I confess. "None.." he shakes his head. "Alright then.. We have.." he looks down at the paper he's holding with both hands, as if his life is depending on this paper. "Wait, I never got your name..." our eyes meet. "I never told you, it's Michael." He holds out his hand "I'm Ashton, in case you forgot what mine was" we shake hands "I did not" I grin at him. I definitely did forgot what his name was, wasn't even listening the first time. "So, what I was saying, we have maths, biology and music together. I'm in other classes for the rest of the subjects" his finger pointing to my name on the paper. ''Class starts in ten, you can sit next to me and in break-time I'll show you around, how does that sounds'' without answering he starts to walk towards the classrooms.
