Chapter Three:
4th Seat of the 11th Division Squad: Yoshihiko Yukina
It has been two weeks since my inauguration. I have already finished every piece of paperwork here in this squad. I wasn’t surprised to see mountains of it since this Squad is full of men who have nothing else in mind but to fight and get stronger. I am the only woman here…which is something that I didn’t want but Zaraki-Taichou begged for.
When I got out of the 12th Division Squad, I knew that I was used as experimentation by that heartless monster, Kurotsuchi-Taichou. It’s as if I was still in that institution that kidnapped me, only, that clown-looking Captain had permit from the Captain-Commander to torture me. I wanted to go, and Kurotsuchi-Taichou gave me a choice. It was whether I would stay for a little while longer or he will erase every memory of mine.
Of course I chose my freedom. When he was finished with erasing everything, I was nothing than a person who doesn’t have an identity. It was a good thing Nemu took pity on me and gave back my memories but she told me that what she gave back is the only thing that she could because the file that contains my memory about Kinta Intelligence is locked deep inside her father’s computer.
For a robot, she had a heart of a true person. She was even kinder than her father who is a true human. “I will be forever indebted to you.” I remember telling her before I left and she answered, “No, you won’t. This is the least I can do for what Mayuri-sama has done to you.” Nemu was really a sweet girl. The next thing I did afterwards is that I went to the Captain-Commander. I told him everything and he came up with a solution, rather than punishment for what Kurotsuchi has done to me.
“You will be joining the 11th Squad Division for the mean time. Yukina, change your identity and live a new life. You once belonged to the 6th Division Squad under Kuchiki-Taichou but I can’t put you back there since his grandson is the one who is leading it now. This is only temporal, until we could finish the mission on the Kinta Intelligence. I can’t let you retire now since we still need you, but afterwards, I will honor your decision if you really want to let go of being a Shinigami.” I couldn’t argue with him anymore so I bowed down and did what he told me.
I was on the way to the 6th Division Squad barracks when I saw Vice-Captain Abarai Renji. “Renji-kun,” I called out and I smiled when he looked at me.
“What are you doing here Yuki?” We met on my first day in the 11th Squad. He used to belong in it and he was only visiting. Ikakku told me that Renji wasn’t technically visiting; he just heard the news of a beautiful maiden joining the Squad.
“I’m headed to your barracks to hand this to your Captain personally.” I held up the mountains of papers that I was holding.
“Let me help you with that.” He took half as we walked.
“Thank you Renji-kun.” I mumbled. “Where were you going?” I questioned as we started walking.
“The meeting of the Lieutenants just finished and I’m headed back to my barracks.” He answered sheepishly.
“Oh… You know, I have never seen Kuchiki-Taichou, is he nice?” I wondered.
“Yes, he is very kind, but only to those whom he thinks is worthy of it. I don’t think he will be cold with you since you seem to be a charming girl.” Renji had his cheeks turn red when he complimented me. I sighed since I knew for a fact that this man liked me.
“But I heard that he wasn’t in good terms with Zaraki-Taichou. I am his 4th seat, what would I do?” I quickly changed the topic. Renji fought back a laugh when he looked at me.
