Chapter Four:
We ended up eating in some random restaurant inside a private room. “What the hell do you want to know woman?” He hissed when he got the courage to speak.
“I want to know in what operative an assassin with a black ninja suit belongs to…” I mumbled.
“There’s that Onmitsukidō led by Soi Fon-Taichou.” He answered and then drank his sake bottoms up.
“No, not that kind of ninja attire. Somewhat different. The person isn’t that much covered like the Onmitsukidō assassins are. Her face is almost bare, her hair isn’t even tied neatly and she looked like a girl who just pretended to be an assassin. I’m not so sure what really happened but I want to know who that person was.” I frowned and looked away.
“You should consider yourself lucky.” He muttered. I quickly looked at him but our eyes didn’t meet because he was looking at the door.
“Why is that?” I mumbled.
“Because you have met the organization that was called the angels of death. They come and kill like the flood. They just come by and take away the lives of people in a snap once the people have seen their faces. There is this story that the Black Operatives went to a village full of thugs, with just two members of them sent, the village got wiped out. The rumor says that the only reason why they show their faces to their target is because they are going to kill them anyway so what is the point of hiding it? And also, if anyone finds out about their true identity, they are executed since they are no longer of worth. I think that organization is being reconstructed.” Shivers went up and down my spine when I listened to his story.
“Do I sense fear in your tone Ikkaku?” I jerked.
“That’s because I saw one of the angels of death. She was so beautiful and I will never forget her face. She wiped out the whole village I used to live in since they were full of criminals. She smiled at me and giggled, her body covered with blood. I didn’t know if I should be running or I should be coming towards her. And then she spoke with her squeaky voice, ‘Go to the next village and live there. If you turn out to be just like these animals, I will kill you, more painful than what I did to them. And by the way, forget the face that you saw tonight, because if you start telling people who I am, I will be forced to kill you.’ I had no idea who she was before and even if I know who she is now, I can’t talk to her and tell her how grateful I was. I still fear her, maybe just as much as I fear our captain. We are called death gods but I don’t know if that name really fits. Because the true death gods are the black operatives. The men in my old village were tortured from morning until noon and I watched everything. The sheer thought that the same thing would happen to me, maybe even worse crept to the back of my mind until now but since I didn’t tell who she was, I guess that woman won’t come after me.” He was really serious.
“Now that is just confusing. When I met one of these Black Operatives, she told me she was my fairy godmother and then she taught me different techniques that I could use. She really wanted to help me and when she was about to leave, she told me I shouldn’t tell anyone about who she really is because people will come after her and I will never be able to meet my prince.” I laughed at the thought.
“Maybe she didn’t want you to be scared so instead of telling you she’d kill you, she just told you something else.” He started drinking more and more sake again.
“It could be, and then she gave me this necklace. She said she stole it from the 12th Division Squad with Nemu’s help. She said that this used to be mine.” I held onto it and my head spun when I suddenly felt it move. It was beating like a little heartbeat.
