NOT EDITEDI had seen it happen in movies, rich kids losing their loved ones and taking responsibility of what they left behind but it doesn't feel right to be there, it was too much for me to handle and memories shared at the firm didn't make it easy for me to get back to work.
I started working at my father's firm as an intern as he would call me since i was eighteen, he would ask me to type official letters in exchange of cash and even when i didn't need the money, it was just another way of getting close to my father.
I have finally come out of my haven and now ready to face the harsh reality of life, my hero was no longer here and i need to get used to it.
I stepped down from the car and walked towards the large building before me, the same building i was always excited to be in since i was a kid, my father's firm and pride,it didn't make any sense that i had to take over the responsibilities without him cheering me on, life truly didn't make sense to me.
I walked into the large reception of the firm and was greeted by receptionist who looked surprised to see her, she smiled and walked up towards the office floor.
I walked into my father's large office and for a moment i felt his presence.
I sat and looked around the office reminiscing the memories we had together in this office.
I didn't want to be there for another minute, i decided to call my best friend to meet me at the coffee cafe around the office.
It was a short ride since the cafe was on the same street as the firm.
I walked into the shop and mikun was already running towards me like a child.
"Mikun, you're twenty-two and not ten"
" I don't care, i missed you so much"she replied hugging me tightly like she was going to run away.
"We still talked last night babe"i smiled, hugging her back,i missed mikun's homely hugs.
"Coming from someone who didn't allow me into the house"
" I needed to be alone mikun"
"Are we going to stand all day"mikun complained while rolling her eyes playfully.
"Really"i chuckled.
"There's an empty table by the window, let's go there"Mikun dragged me towards the table and made me sit across her.
I dropped my bag on the table, settling into the sit with a groan.
" I already ordered for strawberry cupcakes and coffee, your favorite "mikun said with a sly look.
" eww,I don't like strawberry cupcakes and I'm definitely not eating them today "i replied with disdain.
"Calm down, i was just kidding" mikun said, shaking her head at her friend's outburst.
"I'm sorry for calling you without heads up,I just needed to leave the office to clear my head" i said.
"Its fine,i wasn't even doing anything at work and mum was even happy to let me go"
"Let her rest for once, you're always disturbing her"
"I obviously do not understand if I'm your friend, you're always supporting her"
" I know you enough to say you're a pain in the ass"
" are you feeling better?"mikun inquired.
"I'm getting used to it"
"You will be fine folu, this phase will be over soon"mikun whispered.
"Can we talk about something else,i really do not want to think about it"
"You have to accept it to heal, acceptance is what you need right now"mikun replied politely.
"Its hard, its been 3 months and it seems like a fresh wound that's not going to heal!"
"You will be fine, very soon"mikun said with a faint smile on her face.
"Thank you" i replied, holding mikun's hands over the table, i knew mikun was the only one who would listen to me and understand what she was going through at the moment.
"Can we just eat already, I really missed eating cupcakes with you" i said looking at the cupcakes the waiter just dropped on the table.
"Would you like one of these cupcakes, I'm not really hungry"
"I certainly do" mikun replied
"You're always eating my food, you couldn't even beg me to eat more" i chuckled lightly, i always found it funny that mikun was always willing to eat more unlike me.
"I need food in my life to stay in shape" mikun replied sticking her tongue out at her friend.
I smiled at my friend's silly excuse, she would always have a reason for eating everything that comes her way, fingering the handle of my coffee cup i looked softly at her friend's direction wondering how she was able to eat so much and still look good.
"Stop staring at me" she said frowning at me.
" so i cannot look in peace"I replied rolling my eyes at her, knowing she hates it when people roll eyes at her.
" you look lost though, fiddly with the handle of the cup".she said looking at me like she was trying to figure out something.
"Nothing serious" I replied laughing at her facial expression.
" i want to say something and trust me you can bail out if you're not interested " she said while picking on her cake, mikun had the habit of looking down whenever she wants you to do something in her favor.
" mikun, spill already "I replied.
" I'm throwing a dinner party for the success of my bumi fashion tomorrow and i want you to be there " she answered still looking down." i wouldn't miss that for anything, you know i like to party" I answered wondering why she thought i would bail out on her .
"Thank you folu" she replied .
"I would get a free dress though, not turning up for free" I joked trying to scare her.
" ehn, you're supposed to even pay double madam "she answered finally looking up.
" I would send you the design of the dress i want, thank you in advance love" I replied laughing out loud
" you're a reaper" she muttered.
" jack the reaper got nothing on me " I replied still laughing at her childish antics, who wouldn't be glad to get a free customized dress from a top dress maker.
" we should leave already, i know you have things to do at your store" I said to her cause mikun wouldn't say anything even when its inconveniencing her.
" you're right, i need to finalize the guest list " she replied in excitement, i feel so happy for her and how her brand is becoming an house hold name.
"Why are you smiling like that, anything you're not saying" she asked and i just rolled my eyes in reply.
"Stand up madam, you have eaten enough" I picked up my bag and signalled for to stand up or i would drag her out.
"Fine, kill joy" she said while picking up her bag and we left the shop immediately.
