The stars shone brightly above the silent forest. The moon moved slowly and lazily among the stars. No sound came from the forest.
A starry, fluffy cream she-cat padded towards a small island with a stream flowing around it. Her ginger dapples were visible, and her green eyes were round with worry. She silently padded in the island. A Clan camp. The stream around the camp moved quietly.
''Cherryshine!'' She heard a hiss. She turned and noticed a starry white tom sprinting towards her. ''What are you doing here? We're supposed to be in StarClan!''
''You know why I'm here, Cloudtuft.'' She hissed. ''My daughter, our daughter just had kits. And we both know that one of them will have a sad future with many obstacles. How can I be in StarClan? I have to visit them!''
''But-'' Cloudtuft began, but Cherryshine didn't listen. She spun around and sprinted in the nursery, the milk scent surrounding her. A pale blue-gray she-cat laid in a nest, her tail curled protectively around her two kits. Next to her, a cream she-cat was asleep, two kits at her belly.
Cherryshine padded towards the cream she-cat and sat down. ''Oh, Sorrelheart, I'm so sorry that your father and I had to leave you.'' She sighed. ''I know you can't hear me, but I know you miss us. We miss you too, and we will always watch over you and your kits.''
She could feel Cloudtuft, her mate, sitting close to her, but she didn't move. The sleek white tom padded towards her, his dark blue eyes round with sorrow.
''You know, both kits have a stub for a tail. Like you.'' Cherryshine purred.
Cloudtuft nodded. ''They'll both have a bright future. Not for long, but I know they will be strong.''
Cherryshine gave a tiny nod, her eyes fixed on the two brothers who were asleep next to Sorrelheart. She looked back at her mate. ''You know I can't stop visiting them. They're our grandsons, and life won't be easy for them.''
''I understand.'' Cloudtuft sighed and got up. ''I'll go back to StarClan now. I'll wait for you.''
''I'll see you there, then.'' Cherryshine whispered. Cloudtuft nuzzled his mate and then faded back to StarClan. The she-cat looked back at her grandsons.
''I'm sorry, little ones, that you will have so many obstacles and hard choices to make as you grow up.'' Cherryshine whispered. ''But I know you'll be great warriors, and I know you will get through everything.''
She then got up and looked back one more time at Sorrelheart and her kits, then faded back to StarClan.
