Walking Under the Stars

Early May

April ended with another terrible bang.  After watching the last April rain and the first flower of May, I could sense that this month was going to be different than the last one, in a bad way.

Now after I cornered Peggy in the hallway, she decided to take even riskier measures to get rid of me. Not only did Iris side with her, so did Peter. However, I was not surprised. it was easy to get him to agree with you, and I knew that would happen with Peggy. He started following her around with her gang, now consisting of her, Iris, the Dean twins, and some other Slytherins in which I didn't recognize. I felt it was better if I didn't.

Nowadays, I tried to get her off my mind by helping out with Marlene. She was always there for emotional support, and every weekend I would help her film her art show, "The Joy of Painting" (no copyright intended) as producer and director. Remus and Sirius helped, too, Sirius as the guy who shouted stuff like, "EPISODE 3 TAKE 2," and also edited the episodes; Remus was the set designer who just adjusted the lighting and the reflective panels. Sirius would upload the footage onto Marlene's blog, which became popular among the Ravenclaws. (No surprise).

As you can tell, life was going very well. Well, partially. It was May, the peak-season for quidditch. Our team was holding practices seemingly every day, and we had matches every week.  I also didn't get to practice the violin or ballet for a month, and my fingers lost muscle memory. On top of that, I was exhausted every day, and I sprained my ankle thanks to Peggy shoving me down the stairs.  Ha,  I got her back good. Standing on a sprained ankle, I may or may not have broken her left arm. Long story, but I'm sure she couldn't take her exams for at least a month.  She's left-handed.

Gryffindor Common Room

"Wake up!", a voice whispered, shaking me awake. I opened my eyes and saw Marlene wearing a raincoat, her hair damp.

"Marls, it's...", I said, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.

"It's Friday, ten at night. You fell asleep in the library on top of your books after dinner at around seven. Get up quietly, Iris and Mary are asleep.", she said, looking around. "Where are we going?", I asked, getting up. I was still wearing my uniform.

"No questions, just change out of your uniform. I'll tell you when we get there," she said, rushing to her bedside table and grabbing a flashlight.  I rummaged through my trunk, grabbed a navy sweater and a pair of jeans, then put on my beat-up converse (I coated the sides with wax so they wouldn't get soaked). I grabbed my long raincoat, tucking my necklace into my shirt, then hustled with Marlene to the common room.

Maybe this was a special operation because the marauders were there, all of them. Except for Iris, of course.

Sirius took my hand, and I was whisked under his umbrella. We linked arms and with the others, walked out of the Gryffindor common room, out of the hallway of dorms, and came to the outside hallway with its marble walls and intricate columns with names etched into their base. They were permanent, some were messages, some were quotes, others were letters inside a heart like "K + T". One of them caught my attention. An "E + A. Doyle". I recognized it immediately.

(Violet's thoughts)

"Let me tell you the story of a crime your father and I committed"

"Maman, is it bad?"

"Oh, no, it was rather marvelous, but don't tell anyone, okay?"

"Yes, maman."

"We etched with a pocketknife on one of the school's columns. "E+A. Doyle."

"What does that mean?"

"Emilie and Andrew Doyle, my Cherie. Once you go to Hogwarts, I hope that you and your special someone will see it together."

"I will! I'll look for it!"

"Very well, now it's getting late. Good night."

That was one of my favorite memories. "Maman, I found it.", I whispered to the night sky.

The rain that night seemed to wash over me. Sooner or later,  I was standing under the stars, under Sirius's umbrella, my closest friends near us. It was magical, time seemed to stop right then and there. I'll never forget it. "Guys!", I called softly, trying not to disturb the others; we were all dazed. We gathered into a bundle, our umbrellas overlapping to create a cozy, room-like feeling.

"Thank you, everyone, for bringing me here.", I said, clutching the edge of my sweater.

"No problem", Marlene said, her eyes glowing as she clutched her pendant.

We all sat in the grass, barefoot, under our umbrellas, smiling and talking to each other while staring at the stars. Marlene fell asleep on top of Remus, so Mary dragged her back to the girls' dormitory. Remus and James left, too, leaving me and Sirius on the grass. It was peaceful.

I took off my shoes, and so did Sirius. I pulled the hood of my raincoat over my head and stepped into the rain.  "I'll race you to that tree,", he said, smiling. We ran together; I threw my arms out like I had no care in the world.  We caught raindrops on our tongues and laughed with each other in the rain.

I'll never forget it.

Sup people! It's me the author. The past couple of weeks have been rough for me. I have an audition on June 1, so I was busy preparing for it. I also had writer's block, so I couldn't write anything. However, I have taken to a liking of Lofi music, so I've been listening to that. Here's my favorite piece if you want to try. Lofi really helps with inspiration!
