Chapter 2: Kidnapping in Abeno [Part 1]

While on our way to Abeno, Haru briefed us about the contents of the file which I was thanfkul for since I could not multi task as I drive.

From what I heard, a kid named Wendy Fumiya an eight year old in first grade had been missing for more than twenty four hours. She was last seen playing on a playground by her own mother. It was said that the mother had left to buy Wendy some water and when she returned, her child was long gone. The kids who had been with Wendy said that they didn't notice that Wendy was gone since the kids were playing hide and seek and Wendy was 'it'.

After a two hour ride, we arrived at Abeno.

"Here you go" I handed Daisuke his car key. He takes them away from my hand and shoots me an icy glare. I can't help my stifling laughter.

"Let's go, grumpy cat. The client is waiting"

The client was a 40 year old widow with the name Saki Fumiya.

The four of us are seated in the client's dining area. Mrs. Fumiya looked like she hadn't been sleeping for days. Daisuke and Haru are seated together and I was sitting beside Mrs. Fumiya.

"Please help me find my daughter." She sobbed hysterically. "After my husband died she's all I have!"

Working in a investigative field requires you to not only have critical thinking but also empathy. I reached out and smoothed her back, trying to ease her out of crying. I wasn't the best at comforting people so I looked up to seek help from Haru.

'Haru senpai help me' I mouthed.

"Don't worry, Mrs. Fumiya. We'll do our best to find her" Haru speaks in a reassuring voice. Somehow, it seemed to calm Mrs. Fumiya down.

"Please take us to the place where you have last seen her" Haru continues.

We asked Mrs. Fumiya to stay with the police as the three of us are left to investigate. The three of us were seated on a bench. Haru senpai was on my right and Daisuke was on my left.

Daisuke had asked his butler to send the video tapes form the security cameras on his mobile phone before hand. He clicks the play button and the video begins.

The children were playing hide and seek and Wendy was it. The other children ran away to hide. Wendy had her eyes closed and started counting from one to ten but just as soon as Wendy finishes counting, a man in a blue tracksuit covers her mouth and nose with a handkerchief and takes her away.

The video ends and Daisuke slips the phone back in the pocket of his suit.

"That was odd" Haru remarks. "Why would you kidnap a child in front of a security camera?"

"And in broad daylight" I was deep in thought. Something felt ominous about this case and I just couldn't point a finger in it

Daisuke stands up and called his butler through his earpiece.

"You've found the man in the video, correct?" We overhear his conversation with HEUSC.

Haru shakes his head in disappointment, "Is he just planning to buy everything with money."
