Akira

It was already two in the afternoon when I woke up.

Yesterday's events had taken a toll on my body and even if I already had more than eight hours of sleep, there's still a lingering fatigue. I was fortunate that today was a Sunday and that means I had no work so I have the whole day to recover my strength.

"Akira-sama if you continue to overwork yourself I'm afraid you'll die of exhaustion and not from the gun shot wound"

Well...maybe I lied about taking the whole day to recover but I couldn't bring myself to just stay in my room and not do anything.

"Don't worry about me, Ezekiel. I'm really fine" I took a sip of coffee and continued typing. I was in the middle of making a report for the kidnapping incident in Abeno that happened yesterday.

Ezekiel lets out a sigh, clearly frustrated at how stubborn I've become.

"Lady Akira you never change. You're still a bad workaholic."

"Like you're one to talk Ezekiel"

Ezekiel Gu is my personal secretary. Like all members of this household, he's also trained in combat so he's also a body guard to some extent. His family has been working side by side for the Yanai's for as long as I can remember. Ezekiel is kind yet firm about his ideals and he has a huge sense of responsibility. The first time I'd met him he looked like a puppy and I was afraid to overwork him. Turns out he's just as much of a workaholic as I am and has proven himself useful for over the past few years he's been working for me. For someone who was three years younger than me, he awfully nags a lot especially when it comes to my welfare.

"What do you want to do with the criminal who shot you? Would you like to have her executed?"
He asks, turning the page of a file he has been reading.

"Let them be, they're going to spend their lives in prison and that's enough" I set my cup of coffee down on the table. Unlike my father, I don't have any interest in making the lives of anyone who have wronged me miserable.

"As expected of you, Lady Akira" He smiles his pale blue eyes shining.

A puppy.

Unbeknownst to myself, my lips curves into a smile. To me, Ezekiel was like a family. He's the little brother I never had. Of course I refuse to tell him that  because if I did I'm positive he'd just make me dismiss the idea and tell me how much of a man he was.

Growing up as an only child, I longed for a sibling. My parents had always been flying in and out of Japan for work and I was left in the care of my butler Mr. Jung and my attendant Ms. Daiko. Since then, I was made fun of by my peers because my parents were ways unavailable. I did not hate my parents for not having much time for me, I understood the nature of their work even in such a young age but I knew that deep inside, there's still a small emptiness in my heart that still longed for their affection.

Ms. Daiko may be an attendant but she was a second mother to me. When mother was not around, she was the one preparing my meals for me, brushing my hair and tucking me to bed every night while Mr. Jung was the one who drives and sends me to school everyday. I was quite lonely but at least they made it easier.

The first time I've been acquainted to Ezekiel was when I was nine years old. His father was my dad's personal secretary and he would bring the young Ezekiel with him sometimes. He was clinging on the sleeve of his father's button down with his stubby child fingers. His pale blue eyes were shining and his gray hair were nearly reaching his eyes. He looked just like a Samoyed and that was the first time I had used his nickname on him.
