you could kiss him forever but you both take a moment to catch your breath and it's over.

the air is heavy with silence. neither of you speaks. he touches his lips delicately, his expression unreadable.

i'm sorry you say, and as soon as the words escape your lips, he tells you don't be, it's alright. i never thought we would-but i've thought about it before, and i don't regret it now...do you?

you shake your head and he grins. suddenly you feel as though you've been transported into the middle of a sunflower field. everything is bright and languid and beautiful. his words swim in the cool river of your mind, turning and flowing, but never changing.

i've thought about it before.
i don't regret it now.
do you?

you listen to the waves as they crash against the sand. you rest your head on his shoulder. you've done it before a thousand times, though the meaning was different then. the tide comes in, his arms are wrapped around you, and you want to kiss his lips again and again but you don't want to move from this heavenly position, so you kiss him on the neck. the sky shifts from baby blue to golden pink. he kisses your forehead, then your eyelids. you can't help but smile. it's a small, sweet act of love.

time rushes past and childhood is over.
