"Why don't you just go home?" A silver haired male sighed as he sat in front of the forehead crossing boy in front of him.
"I still have to finish this paper work, you know this! You've been asking me for the past hour or four-"
"These papers work?! Yeah yeah yeah, we get it. But it's your fifth year anniversary today!" He exclaimed once again, "Don't you want to take a break, even just today and go home early to Donghyuck?"
"Yeah Taeyong is right! We haven't missed a single anniversary, and yet you have! Multiple in fact." The blonde haired best friend of Mark, Jaehyun scoffed knowing how apathetic the younger male was.
"You can't avoid going home tonight!" The smaller but older male exclaimed.
"He'll understand." His eyes roamed the paper barely putting together the words written.
"When does he not understand?" Jaehyun scoffed as he plopped himself on the chairs in front of the younger.
"Do you even remember his birthday?" Taeyong questioned as he leaned in towards the younger making him look up.
"April 27th." Both the males cringed internally as they heard him so confident and brave with his wrong answer.
"How the hell does he put up with you!" Taeyong leaned back into his seat and rolled his eyes.
"June 6th you idiot." Jaehyun said lowly, very disappointed at his friend.
Everyone who is within the company knows who Donghyuck is. He worked as Marks secretary before leaving as he wanted to go into modeling and his own business to which he was successful.
But everyone also knew that Mark was absolutely a trash boyfriend.
He never flaunts, never is sweet with Donghyuck. He never even bothered to invite him to have lunch together when there was just a wall separating them.He never even bothers to remember his birthday or their anniversary which happened to be today.
He was too wrapped up in wanting to produce more magazines, more books, more deals, more money. Never even bothering to notice if his lover was alright.
Which he wasn't. He just never said anything.
——
"Hyuck why are you here at this ungodly hour?" His best friend Na Jaemin asked as he looked grumpily at his best friend who looked so distressed.
"I cooked extra food so I thought I could give you some." His eyes still twinkled like when they met in 3rd grade, yet now it held rain instead of sunshine.
"He didn't show up did he?" The younger knew better than to believe that the almighty Mark Lee would show up to what he would call "a waste of time" event.
He never cared that Hyuck was a hopeless romantic, who loved to be cared for, loved, and taken care of. Just like anyone else who loved love.
He did at first just to show that he was like any other, yet, something in him just snapped one day. After their three year anniversary he just changed. He didn't remember the simple stuff, and would rarely have time for the younger.
And yet Mark was still dense to not notice how much damage he was doing.
"He's probably busy." He lifted his head up and smiled at the younger. Slowly backing out of the door frame, towards the outside of the room.
"I have to go. I just dropped off this for you and your boyfriends. Have fun and enjoy." He smiled slightly and began to walk home.
Yes, he said boyfriends. Jaemin was lucky enough to have been in a relationship, with their other best friend, Jeno, since early high school, and soon the duo became a threesome, when they met Renjun, the summer before they entered college. He envied the love that they held, never too much or too less, even if there were more people left to love, something he never felt even if he was the only one.
He walked home alone in the dark. Hoping to find a car in the driveway. But to no avail. The male was still gone. At 2 a.m. he would still prioritize his business over his lover.
He walked in the rooms were all barren, no decoration put up, as the the elder said "those are too tacky," or "those don't go well with my couch"
He sat on his bedside dipping slowly, his eyes already ready with another fresh set of tears. 3/5 he had already missed.
The first anniversary was magical, the most magical moment in both of their nights, it was just right. They spent hours talking over a nice dinner that Mark opted to cook, it was something different from the usual burnt eggs, it was fine cuisine, all of Haechan's favorites.
The second anniversary he flew in right on time before midnight from Paris. He hugged him tightly. And that was enough to forget about everything. All the worry, almost as if it was the last calm before the storm, or rather make that storms.
By the third he barely tried and pulled some sappy rom com shit on the younger, for which he fell for.
But now nothing was being solved as he was alone yet again with no one holding him. As he laid starting straight he rushed his tears out waiting for the end so that he could finally sleep without a headache.Slowly letting his eyes close waiting yet for another day where he was alone.
——
"One day he won't be patient enough to wait on you." Jaehyun pointed out.
"Five years are enough to keep him with me." He sounded so sure.
"But one day he might just get fed up with you." Taeyong nodded and looked at the elder who was contemplating.
"He's young, and attractive. He honestly deserves better," Jaehyun pointed out, knowing that the male knew what he said was true.
"He won't." He glared at the two, a small glint of emotion running through his cold gaze, that no one had a clue as to what he felt.
But something happened, oh boy did something happen.
