Broken Wings
After Nasr had returned to his house, he was treated with respect and love. Many relatives came to visit him, and he rarely did step out of the house. It was too embarrassing for him. He asked his parents multiple times when they were letting him go, but instead they convinced him to give the board exams and that he would be allowed to pursue a university in Sikkim. He had no option left; the exams didn’t go well. His mental health had deteriorated drastically, he felt number every day. He did not even feel sad anymore.
He later joined his father’s business and aimed to save money so that he could at least visit Sikkim again. One day, he found a letter in his father’s almirah that was a missing report of him. He realized that it just wasn’t Subash’s parents deed and that both their families had conspired against them. He called up, met Subash and apologized to him.
A few months later, he came to know from his sister that his father never had a heart attack, and it was all a hoax to make him emotional. It was all too much for him to bear. He had given it all up, it had been so hard for him to give everything up, tie all his emotions, and still kept going. All of it was taken away from him on basis lies and fake promises. He got into cigarettes and found it hard to live. All his life’s reason was taken away from him.
One night, he could not hold it anymore, and he sat down and wrote a note-
‘It was easy for you to find me because I had a soul inside that cared about others. It had empathy, and it made mistakes. But my soul, you see, it could not find a reason to stay. The only reason I had left was that of starting a new life somewhere far. It was all taken away from me. I could not even complete the most important journey in my life. I do not blame you for anything that happened, or anyone else. You had your reasons, and so do I. This is not a runaway note, I have an extra scooter key in my room, you will find it parked somewhere near the Chandrabhaga beach. Good luck finding my body.’
He pasted the note on his parents’ room door and made his way to Chandrabhaga beach, it was about a hundred kilometers away from his house. He was tearing up, and crying with heavy music playing in the earphones. He cruised through the desolate highway; it was his last ride.
It was a dark night. He looked at the raging waves in front of him, he kept his phone turned on, and locked his keys and phone inside the trunk. It was done for him. He walked across the sandy shore to the raging waves crashing on the shore. He breathed a deep sigh and peace encompassed his mind. He didn’t know how to swim. He walked into the sea, there was no anxiety in his mind anymore. He was falling then and again, with the force of the waves, but he kept walking. HE had reached deeper and was suffocating, he was drowning, his body resisted at first but he let go. He opened his eyes as he saw himself sinking. His lungs had filled with water, he could not breathe. All his life flashed in front of him, his incomplete journey to Sikkim.
‘A bird that was supposed to fly high over the mountains, drowns in the depths of the sea,’ he thought to himself and smiled. He saw himself on the mountains, but it was all just a dream that death was showing him. The blackness of death creeped over his eyes and they finally closed. He died with a peaceful smile on his face. His journey was finally over.
The End.
