(A/N) This imagine is set in the 19th century and I know it's something unusual. But I wanted to try something different.

It was 1873, the year of your eighteenth birthday. You were very excited. You knew your daddy had something big planned for your birthday. He always started your birthday off with a small treasure hunt, giving you clue after clue, revealing small gifts hid around your mansion. It was such a fun way to start off your birthday. He did the same this year too, but this time the clues were harder to solve but you were smarter and wiser too. You found your way around the gifts, the first ones were pretty small, the middle ones a little bigger but the last one present was the biggest of them all, and the most valuable. It was a huge diamond ring. You had not seen that coming. You were as delighted as a child with a lolly in his hand.

After your won the treasure hunt, you went out to collect your gown for the big ball for that eve with your mother. After collecting it you come back home and started getting ready for the ball. It was going to be a very big ball, your father's friends all the way from Ireland, India, far away cities in England and even from America were coming over just to attend his doll's eighteenth birthday. And you truly felt like a princess. After spending three hours on dressing up, wearing the brilliantly huge gown with the tightest corset you owned and the ring your daddy gifted you with your hair pulled back in a neat bun and earrings to go with the ring. You looked beautiful, and you felt beautiful. The guests had started coming in and you went to the ball room to welcome them. All of them wished you a very happy birthday and a lot more years. Some of them congratulated you for making it into womanhood with such grace. You thanked thema all.

Because you were the birthday girl, the centre on the attraction, all the young gentlemen, willing or not, had an obligation to dance with you. When it was your turn to dance with your third cousin, who had asked you to marry him more than once before, you said to him, "I'm so sorry mister but I need to powder my nose. If you'll excuse me for just a minute..." and you leave, happy to have gotten rid of  him, you go and sit on the garden bench. Just then a voice calls out, "Who's there? Hello? Who's there?"

"I'm (y/n). I just came out here to get a breath of fresh air. I didn't mean to disturb anybody. May I know who I'm talking too?" You call out towards the direction of the voice.

Just then a man walks out, not yet a man but not even a boy, of the trees on the west end corner of the garden. He walks towards you, talks your hand and kisses it.

"I'm Sir Horan's second son, Niall Horan. We just reached here yesterday. And I must say that this party was worth the long travel from Ireland."

"So your from Ireland, eh? It's very nice to meet you Sir."

"Oh no, please call me by my first name. Leave that Sir poppy cock for the grown ups." He said smiling and his deep blue eyes twinkling in the dark. And you knew it was love at first sight. You were definitely in love with him but you weren't not sure if he felt the same way.

"How long will you stay here for before leaving for Ireland?"

"Now if we've come so far off, we ought to stay here for a month or two."

"Well that's nice. Why were you out here? Shouldn't have you been inside enjoying the ball?"

"I came out for the same reason as you did." He said, smiling wider now with all his pearl like teeth showing.  And you smile in return. Just then you heard a group of ladies chatting and you hear them say your name, so you signal Niall to stay silent and walk towards the ladies with Niall right behind you.

It wasn't a very nice thing to sneak on ladies but it also wasn't nice of the ladies to talk about you behind your back. You inch closer, close enough to make out their speech. Some one says, "But (y/n) is eighteen already. If she waits for another year, she will not get a good man for herself."

"You're right. She should have just gotten married to her cousin, he's well to do and isn't that bad looking."

Hearing this, making sure that you don't make any noise, you cover your mouth with your hand and run away crying. This wasn't the first time you had heard about your wedding status from people. But the more you did the sharper and more painful it sounded. You ran up to another corner of the garden trying to get away from Niall and he too stopped following you. Maybe he wanted to give you some space. You didn't find a bench so you sank on the ground itself. After half an hour of not very lady like sobbing you feel someone tapping on your shoulder. You look up to see it's Niall offering you a handkerchief. You take it and blow your nose and give it back to him but he says, "Um... Miss. (y/n), you can keep it."

So you smile and put it away. "I'm sorry you had to see that and thank you for giving me my space, Sir."

"What did I tell you before? Do not call me Sir. And do not worry, I understand. Those ladies had no right to say what they did. You are a beautiful girl and I'm sure your father will find you a handsome suitor." And you blush a deep red, "I'm sure he will."

"Now if your done would you like to dance with me?" You smile and take his extended hand. You go inside and dance with the most beautiful man you have ever seen, making the other young girls jealous. You spend another few weeks with him showing him around the town. You take him for horse riding and many more things. You took him to clubs, introduced him to all your friends and you felt good when girls looked at the man on your arm with envy. And what you didn't know was that Niall thought exactly the same, he felt amazing when all the men around him envied the way you pulled him around everywhere with you.

On a bright spring morning your door bell rang and you went up to the door to open it. Niall's pink face greeted you with a jolly 'Good Morning!'

"Good Morning to you too Niall. Come on in."

"No, actually I was wondering if you would please go with me to a picnic. Just... The both of us..."

Your heart took a flip, "OK. Um... I'll go change into something appropriate. I'll be down in five minutes." You run up to your room with your long skirt help up to your thigh so that it wouldn't disturb your feet while you were running making sure no one saw you because it wasn't a very elegant thing to do. You hurry up and change into something prettier, a long pink and white dress and go down to Niall, ready for a picnic.

You took your seat on the carriage and the horse man started to ride. After an eerily silent trip, you stopped at a beautiful garden for the picnic. And now instead of taking your arm, he took your hand in his and walked to a secret spot in the garden while you were blushing the whole time. After talking for what felt like minutes, Niall had to drop you back home before dusk. He had giving his word to your father.

You stood up ready to leave but Niall caught you down and said, "There was something I wanted to tell you."

"Yes?" You reply, your heart pounding.

"I think... I know... Well... that i'm in love with you." He said worried and after looking at your shocked reaction he said, "Please say that you love me back. Or at least say something."

"I love you too." You say and blush. And the next you know Niall was moving towards you, smoothly but some what hesitantly. He takes your chin and leans in while you sit straight without moving an inch. He was blushing too, you could clearly see it, his fair cheeks red. And slowly closed in the small space that was left between your lips. It was a small sweet kiss but you saw fireworks! This was something you had never felt before and it felt wonderful!

He smiled at you, now much more confident, kissed you on your cheek once again and said,"You're beautiful." Took your hand and lead you to the carriage.

The next day when you came back from the market with your friend, you saw that Niall's father and your father were hugging each other and you had this sinking feeling that they were leaving for Ireland sooner than they were supposed to but then you saw Niall standing in the corner with the biggest smile on his face, your father came up to you and took your hand in his big, warm and caring hands and said,"I can't believe my doll's about to get married. And with my best friends son! We need to get things done before they leave for Ireland because you'll be leaving with them" On hearing the first part you were filled with joy, Niall had asked your father for your hand in marriage! But the second part saddened you and you hugged your father and started salting his vest.

Just then Niall came up behind you and said, "I'll take care of you princess. Don't cry. I will always love you." And you believed him.

The end.
