y/n smiled and ran throughout the square of the town below the castle. today was valentines day, the day of sweet, sweet food and love. although she never had anyone to experience the couple only festivities, she never fret because she always looked on the bright side of things. y/n saw Rapunzel with an unknown young man beside her and skidded to a halt before running over to her and the random person. "hey Raps! how's it hanging Pascal?" y/n smiled and let Pascal crawl onto her hands and gave him a 'high five'. "y/n! how've you been you little rascal?" Eugene said recognizing his 'little sisters' voice. "Eugene! you jerk! you promised you'd repay me for the chocolate you stole from me last year and I don't see any caramel covered treats in my hands!" y/n complained as she ruffled his already messy hair. "yeah whatever. hey blondie, why don't you introduce Varian to y/n while I run so that way y/n doesn't kill me thanks bye!" Eugene ran off before Rapunzel could oppose. she shook it off and smiled at y/n. "y/n, this is Varian. Varian, this is y/n. you already have something in common considered you both like sciene-y nerd stuff. just talk to each other about that so I can find Eugene. oh, y/n please keep and eye on Varian. he's only out for today because we thought he could use the fresh air and get out of the cellar." y/n smirked and nodded, "you can count on me Raps! well, since your stuck with me, let's go! I'm not gonna spend the whole valentines day doing nothing with a random nerd, but since I got to keep and eye on you, we're doing all the couple valentine stuff i've never gotten to do!" she said excitedly and quickly gripped his gloved hand and began to search for their first activity. "hey wait! im not spending the day doing stupid lovey-dovey stuff with someone I barely know!" He opposed and tried to argue but all y/n did was smile and turn to him. "good thing we'll get to know each other over the festival! come on! we can go to the little restaurant over there and talk to each other, it'll be fun! plus, I'll pay so you can get whatever you'd like!" she smiled even larger and walked over to the restaurant. "she just doesn't give up, does she?" Varian liked that about her already. he smiled and sighed, "this is going to be a long day." he thought out loud as he took his seat and started talk to y/n about stuff they liked and other interests they had.
by the end of the day, the two were smiling and laughing like they'd known each other for years. "hey look! the ferris wheel isn't full yet! let's go, if they think we're a couple they give you a discount!" y/n said happily as she grabbed his hand and pulled him on. the two sat on and just had small banter about what they would do if they won an award. soon enough the two reached the top and then fireworks started going off with silly little writing and cheesy hearts. "you know, despite the fact your a criminal and I've barely known you, you're pretty cool. I might ask the princess if she can let you off since it's already been a while and have me as your, well, get out of harms way person. If that's cool with you, of course." Varian was shocked at the words that just left y/ns mouth. surely, she was just joking, I mean, how is she going to get him a pardon? "No, you can't. I get your friends and all, but you don't really have enough power to get me out. and, that's fine I don't mind. I've gotten use to the cell anyway. I'm just glad I got out today, or else I wouldn't have been able to meet you." y/n smiled as she felt his hand on hers. "oh, right I don't think I ever told you." Varian got confused. "told me what?" y/n smiled softly getting out of the cart. "my last name, it's Goulin. as in, the kingdom of Goulin. it doesn't really change anything about our friendship, I hope you know." Varians eyes widen as he saw her skip her way to Rapunzel. "holy cow. I just spent the day with princess y/n and didn't even realize it. I'm so stupid! I-I should've been the one paying! but with what money?! oh god, what have I done?!" Varian panicked for a split second as he heard a laugh but sighed realizing it was just Eugene. "you're over thinking this dude. just, be cool. that's how I got goldie." Varian flushed and looked surprised. "I don't like her, I don't need to 'get her'." Varian said using his fingers for quotation marks. "you may not like her, but she as heck likes you. I mean, what kind of person goes out of their way to get a pardon for another. oh, and if you do end up getting feeling for her, if you break her heart once I'll break every bone in your body, twice. and I'll get blondie to burn the pardon and get you thrown in the cell again. she's basically my only family so, don't hurt her in anyway." Eugene said threateningly but then put on a smile as he ruffled Varians hair. "looks like you'll be sleeping the palace tonight. y/ns staying for dinner so, so are you. come on, let's go see what's on the menu kid." Eugene said as he walked towards the castle and Varian followed. "w-wait, shouldn't we wait for the princess to actually pardon me?" Eugene smiled and shook his head. "as soon as y/n explains the situation of her failing, desperately in love with you, blondie will clear everything right away. and she'll make sure her parents know about it too." Eugene cleared up as he and Varian went into the castle. once inside the two overheard giggling from the kitchen. "y/n! I'm so proud of you! you got over e/n and found a new boyfriend!" Rapunzel said quite loudly. "Raps! keep it down will you! he's not my boyfriend! he's just my friend and I just want to spend more time with him okay?" y/n explained, flushed a bright red. "mhm, sure. now, where is Varian? you didn't leave him alone, did you?" Rapunzel asked. "of course not! I saw Eugene and knew he was gonna give the "if you hurt her" speech so I left before it got awkward. now come on! let's go find them before the food get cold!" y/n said and lead Rapunzel out of the dining hall. Varian and Eugene had already walked back and acted like they were just entering and they hadn't heard the conversation. "Eugene! come on, they made your favorite and it's still hot!" y/n said with excitement as she pulled Eugene into the dining room. Rapunzel stopped Varian from walking in and made him step back from the room so the two couldn't hear they're conversation. "Varian, I'm giving you a pardon. I've already been over it with my parents and they said it was fine. you'll be staying in a spare room with y/n tonight, and tomorrow you'll leave and go to the neighborhood-ing kindgom, Goulin. please, for the sake of y/n stay out of trouble. she really likes you Varian, she can't take another heart break." Rapunzel said calmly and somewhat sadly as she whispered the last part. Varian understood and nodded to her. "of course, of course. I promise I won't do anything to hurt her trust." Varian said seriously without an ounce of lying. Rapunzel smiled sweetly as she heard y/n call out for the two. "Raps! Varian! the foods getting cold and eaten by Eugene and I won't be able to hold his ear much longer please come get something to eat!" she called out as Eugene begged and pleaded for her to stop pulling on his ear. Rapunzel and Varian laughed and went to the dining hall and got something to eat. "this is going to be fun." Varian said out loud as he went to sleep in an actual bed instead of a spring mattress.
