Monday; arguably the worst day of the week. Kady stepped out of her house, barely holding back an exasperated sigh as the cold air hit her face, a bitter reminder that she was leaving the comfort of her home.

"At least no one should know that it was my birthday..." Kady muttered to herself, feeling at least a little relieved. Most of the other students had made their eighteenth birthdays such big deals that they'd immediately had crowds of students surrounding them when they'd entered the college, each eager to see the words that were inscribed on their wrist. Kady had not- in fact the only person that knew it had been her birthday was Symphony, and she'd been there on the day of so had no reason to crowd around and ask what the words were. Kady took great comfort in the fact that her soulmate's words would be hidden to all but herself- and Symphony of course.

Despite that fact, Kady still knew that she would be dreading every single conversation that she would have with anyone other than her best friend. I mean, if one person knew... everyone would know in an instant. Kady slowed her pace with that thought, somehow even more reluctant to make her way to college now.

It took a few minutes longer than usual but Kady soon found herself in front of the main brick building, the double doors to her college filling her with anxious thoughts about the day ahead. She closed her eyes, took one deep breath, and joined the sea of students entering the building.

With her head kept down, Kady hurriedly made her way to her locker and opened it, glancing at the various textbooks inside.

"Double Law, Politics, Psychology, and Graphic Design." She whispered her schedule to herself, grabbing the Law folder she needed for her first class. Kady took her water bottle out of her bag before placing her bag in its designated place in her locker, closing it shut after making sure everything was in place; she locked it, then double-checked the lock, desperate to avoid a repeat of the time Lucas and James trashed her locker- then blamed her for forgetting to lock it. Kady rolled her eyes and scoffed at the memory.

"Kady, fancy meeting you here." Kady didn't even bother containing her groan.

"Fancy meeting me at my locker?" She turned around and glared up at Callum; with his straight blond hair in a quiff and his piercing blue eyes, it wasn't hard to understand why he was so popular- though Kady was too preoccupied detesting his every move to notice his appearance much. She glanced around him, eyebrows raising when she noticed he was alone- no Lucas and James. Kady settled her eyes back on him. "What do you want?"

"Can't I just want to see my favourite girl?" Callum grinned down at her, placing one hand against the locker and then leaning over her. Kady did not hide the disgust on her face as she stepped out from beneath him.

"I'm going to class."

"Sure thing, I'll see you later." Callum winked at her before heading down the hallway, turning around once to shoot Kady a smirk. Kady shook her head with an irritated sigh and turned, ready to make her way to class.

"Hey, Kay." Kady jumped back, not expecting Symphony to be right in front of her. Symphony bit her lip to hide her laughter at her friend's startled look.

"Seriously, Sym, you need to stop." Kady placed a hand to her racing heart, shooting a small glare at Symphony as she laughed.

"Come on, we need to get to class." Symphony wrapped her arm around Kady's, and the two began making their way to their first class.

Kady glanced over at her friend as they walked, smiling as the memory of the beginnings of their friendship entered her mind: they'd met their first year of Secondary School, the two bonding quickly over their mutual dream of becoming lawyers- that's why they were lucky enough to be in the same classes in college, with the exception of Graphic design- Symphony had opted for Art instead.
