I was only a little foal, a new born practically. I was a paint. vivid russet colors painted all over my body, splotches of white. me and my mother looked identical, it was mid-day, our herd was by a low trickling river with salmon running through it as rabbits ran through the long grass spooking the other herd members.

and then, whinnes and crys poured out of the air. a pack of wolves; they sprung forward as my mother nuzzled me making my weak legs to get up. she nipped at one of the low-rank wolves, and bucked at a wolf that we liked to call 'Timber' the herd fled as I sprang up running along with the rumps of other horses in my face... my mother nudged me telling me to go up to my father, Enzo, My mother soon caught up, the wolves nipping at the tails. I raced up carrying my little legs as fast as they could take me. I saw Firefly, my best friend, who was a Roan Quarter Horse, the distinctly looked at me as he galloped right beside me, our flanks rubbed up against eachother. I finally caught up to my father, he looked down and saw me and FireFly. he looked straight ahead and kept going in motion. the back of the herd bucked out the rest of the pack. only leaving that wolf called 'Timber'...

the whole herd stopped as the matted wolf barred his teeth and snarled. My father, Enzo, reared causing the wolf to flatten his ears. Enzo bucked at the wolf as Timber lunged at him, as my father led him away from the pack, galloping to the left were the part of the open field was. you could here the bucking and whinneys, the growls and yelps. my mother, Freedom, stepped half infront of me. Firefly was on the right of me as he just stood terrified. i nuzzled him to make sure he was'nt hurt. he suddenly nickered and looked at me with appreciation. i couldnt take it anymore.

I bolted.

I wanted to save my father. i galloped as my mother whinnied, she was the lead mare, so the rest of the herd followed her. at the large, broad wolf was battered and he turned his head to look at me straight in the eyes.at that moment he loudly whimpered falling to the ground. blood spattered, dirt flew in the air, some in chunks, my father had bucked him.

the mares and other foals had crept up stalkingly. wondering what had happened, i cantered straight up to the knocked out wolf. and screamed at him. yes. i screamed at him, i was so furious with that wolf. FireFly cantered straight up to and screamed at him, just like when we saw the baby goat when we were passing a small herd of sheep.

me and FireFly pranced around as my father nuzzled me, telling me to get back to the herd. me and FireFly trotted back to the herd of dapple greys, paints, duns, all sorts of colored horses. it was getting close to winter so we had to be cautious of where we traveled. especially when animals were looking for food.

***One Month Later***

the lake was fozen by now, i thought when the lake froze, the whole lake froze with it. even the fish! I didnt know why, i was a little more older now and FireFly's roan coat was more thick, my coat was a little early, I looked like a fuzzy pony! I do not want to look like a fuzzy pony! I stomped my hoof, my mother urged over to me to see if anything was wrong. I tried to drink milk from her but she trotted away. I sighed. i guess i was to old to drink milk. but, atleast I tried.

I went over to FireFly who was playing with another foal we called Tonto. I got a little jealous so, I roamed around prancing. Hoping he would come to play; but, he did'nt so i joined in the fun. I chased Tonto around nipping her playfully by his tail. FireFly followed my nipping at my tail, and soon Tonto was nipping FireFly's. It was practically a 'nipping train' we played for about five minutes with that activity, then got bored. As always, so me and FireFly went to the little pond out back and had a sip of water. it made me a little cold, i didnt doubt it. but after a couple minutes of play i was pretty hot.
