Y'all have been wanting this for so long I can't believe I left a cliff hanger on the first part I'm a horrible person

also I feel obligated to say that it starts off with angst and very quickly turns into fluff so dw

"Nana? I've been calling you for awhile. Did you fall asleep or something?" Zane peered into their bedroom, where Nana had curled up. She was lying faced away from the door in the darkness. Zane tsked, hands on his hips. She did have a bad habit of falling asleep, especially with it so dark in their room. He rounded their bed, intending to rouse her awake, but was surprised to find her not sleeping. He turned on the bedside lamp.

"Nana?" He breathed, worry beating fast in his heart. He looked to her tear-stained cheeks, and to the phone in her hand. "What did you.." he looked at her earbuds, and stopped dead in his tracks.

"Zane." She choked, heart twisting in ways more worse than she'd ever felt before. Zane was frozen where he stood. She had no idea what to say. She'd just totally invaded his privacy, looked into something he never had the intention of sharing, let alone being ready to share. She was in the wrong, and she hated that she'd just done this to him.

Zane closed his eyes. Opened his mouth. Closed it. Opened his mouth again, and paused. "I didn't want you to see that." He sighed, not meeting her eyes. Nana sat upright.

"I know and I'm sorry— I shouldn't have—"

"I just—" he frowned when he cut her off, but he needed to tell her. "I wanted to sing for you. I wanted to sing for you and I wanted it to be perfect because Nana, you've been nothing but perfect. You're amazing, and I mean it." It was Nana's turn to cut him off.

"Zane, I'm not amazing. I- I just went through your phone." She cried, hanging her head in shame. Zane sighed, shifting his weight to his other foot.

"I'm.." he paused, crinkling his nose as he thought of how to word what he wanted to say. "I'm.. I'm glad that you listened to it, a little bit. It's really," He felt color rise up his neck, "really embarrassing, but all of it's true. And songwriting is just one of the ways I can.. get all of that out... how I feel about you.. I don't know." He paused, shaking his head. He drew in a breath, and crossed his arms. "I just wish you hadn't gone through my phone." Zane finished. Nana nodded gravelly.

"I know this doesn't help," Nana piped up, still not meeting his eyes, "but I really liked your song, Zane. And I think you're really, really, really good at singing." She said. Zane sighed again, and ruffled her hair. She looked up in surprise, and he leaned in with both hands on the sides of her face to kiss her forehead. She smiled weakly, and Zane hugged her.

"I'm always going to love you, no matter what. Okay?" Zane asked, and he wrapped her in an embrace. Nana sagged a little, pressing her forehead into his shoulder. She nodded.

"I love you. I'm sorr—" Nana started, moving to sit upright. Zane put a finger to her lips.

"I forgive you, Nana."

Zane really had forgiven her. And Nana was grateful. She felt as if she didn't deserve him. He had become so understanding and thoughtful, she'd have never guessed this from him a few years ago.

She tucked a stray hair behind her ear from where she was sitting on their porch. She had been mending their garden, and was taking a break for now. And besides, Zane was far more particular about how the flowers were taken care of. He would fix them later.

The whole debacle with Nana going through his phone had completely blown over. They hadn't talked about it since, and things were back to normal for the couple. But Nana never stopped feeling guilty about it.

She turned over her shoulder once she heard footsteps nearing the door from inside their house. She blinked in surprise once she saw Zane emerge, guitar in hand. She couldn't help herself from asking questions.

"Since when did you have a guitar?" She squeaked, looking over the instrument with awe. Zane chuckled, mischievously looking off to the side.

"Oh, I don't know, since forever." He grinned, and her curiosity was beginning to get the better of her. What was he doing with a guitar? Was he getting rid of it? Was he just showing her it? Was he going to play?

"Nana," he finally said, bringing her out of her thoughts and causing her to snap to attention. The smile was wide on her face, and her cheeks went bright pink.

"Yes, Zane?" She asked, giddy with excitement as he sat down next to her on their stairs.

"Would you mind a song?" He asked, a nervous grin on his face. Nana almost squealed, he was too cute.

Nana giggled at the thought, reaching out to boop him on the nose. "I wouldn't mind the tiniest bit." She smiled.

Nana was crying and hugging him by the end. He had a gift. He sincerely had a gift. She pulled away, hands on his shoulders.

"How do you do that?" She gawked. Zane played coy.

"Do what?" He asked, and she rolled her eyes and exclaimed in discontent.

"Zane!" She frowned. "I can't believe you wrote that for me." She cried. Zane scoffed.

"Of course I wrote that for you. You're my sole inspiration, kitten." He murmured, pressing a kiss to her cheek. "You're my world, I can't help that."

Nana giggled, and pressed their foreheads together.

"Thank you for sharing this with me." She said, sincere.

"I'm glad you liked it." Zane laughed. "I want to write for you more." He admitted. Nana pressed a hand to his face and rubbed at his stubble with her thumb.

"I'm going to have to make you more cupcakes for payback, hm?" She asked as a tease, and Zane kissed her again as she erupted into another fit of giggles.

"I certainly wouldn't mind the tip." Zane laughed as he kissed her again.
