"Can I open my eyes yet?" I mumble, trying my hardest not to trip. I honestly have little faith in Justin and his ability not to let me fall on my face.

"Just two more steps," he laughs, clearly amused by my need to see whats going on. I've been blindfolded for about 30 minutes now, apparently, whatever we are going to is a huge surprise, and no one trusts me to keep my eyes closed.

It has been five years since we graduated high school, and let me tell you things have not been sunshine and rainbows all the time. Justin and I ended up in a semi-long distance relationship for the last year, which has been the hardest thing for me. But he got an excellent opportunity for a job and had to take it. He came to visit about a week ago and hasn't answered my many questions on when he is going back, which is suspicious as fuck. And now, this surprise thing is adding to my many unanswered questions.

I feel the knot on the blindfold slowly being pulled apart, and soon enough, bright light floods my sensitive eyes. I blink a few times and look around, confusion growing more and more. We stood in front of Paul's Diner, which closed about six months ago. I no joke cried when it happened.

"What are we doing here?"

"Just follow me," he says, stepping up to the building and unlocking the door. I stare at him in shock but say nothing as I follow him inside. "Blythe, I know how much you love this place and how much it means to you. So with a little help from two generous business partners, I bought it."

"You did what? How? Who?" I couldn't even form real sentences, and my eyes were slowly filling with water.

"I bought it. Do you remember Jim, the guy who got me my job? Well, he is a wonderful small business investor, and when Paul's closed, I brought up a little business proposal."

"How can you afford this?" I was smiling from ear to ear at this point. No one except Justin truly understands the importance of Paul's.

"With help from my hopefully future father-in-law," he gives me a small wink as my mom and dad step out of the back, business partner number two is my dad. Wait, did he say, 'future father-in-law'?

"Blythe, when Paul's closed, we were both devastated. It was your weird home away from home and the one place I had always imagined proposing to you. So I bought it, just so I could do this," his voice trails away as he bends down on one knee, "Blythe, I've loved every piece of you for such a long time and for years I've desperately waited for the perfect moment to ask you to share my last name with me. So Blythe, would you marry me?" As he says those words, he pulls out a small box and opens it to reveal a simple and perfect diamond ring.

"Yes, Justin, yes!" I say through tears and a smile, slipping the ring onto my finger and enveloping him into a hug.

"I will love you for the rest of our lives," he mumbles into my hair.

"I love you always and forever."

Somehow, Paul's Diner has grown even more important to my life. The diner that used to be my savior from everything bad has become mine and will continue to be my favorite place on this planet.

I hope you enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster that is Blythe and Justin's lives.
