"What's wrong with you? I know you're impervious, but they still could have captured you! How do you think Orlando would feel?! How do you think I would feel if I lost you?" I scream at her.

As tears swell in my eyes, I storm into the house. I know Maya hates those people, but I'd be sad without her. We grew up together in the Lad, along with our pets, before the boys came along. We were first.

Alai, comes up to me and gently licks my hand in comfort. I give him a watery smile and go to my designated room.

Adrian appears I'm front of me. I yelp and jump in surprise. He pulls me to him and wrap my arms around him.

"Hey, I know Maya can do some stupid stuff, but she does it to protect you. If she didn't care, she wouldn't be here." Adrian soothes.

"I know. You're right. I just wish she understood how that stuff makes me feel. "

I gently kiss his lips. He pulls me closer before I can pull away, making the kiss deeper for a minute until I pull back.

"You know we can't." I tell him.

"I know, sometimes I wish though."

"Me too." I answer, giving him a strong smile before kissing him on the cheek.

I go back downstairs and find Maya. She's lying on the couch with Sugar on the floor beside her. I walk to her silently.

"I'm sorry Maya. I just worry about you, because you don't really care about what happens to you. I just can't stand losing you, Maya. I apologize for yelling at you."

"It's fine. I can understand how you feel when you see me like that." She replies, I guess accepting my apology. We linger in silence for a while. "So did you and Adrian have fun upstairs?" She asks teasingly, making my cheeks burn.

"Can't you for once just chill? I like him and nothing is going to change that. You'd be better to deal with it. Look, I don't feel like fighting."

"Whatever, I don't either and you should try taking a joke every once in a while."

I flop down beside her and rest on her shoulder too tired for a comeback. Alai hops on Sugar and I peacefully fall asleep.

When I wake up, Adrian and Maya are at each other's throat.

"What have I ever done to you?!"

"Oh God, here we go again with this. I annoy me daily. You act like a girl on her period every day! You have no backbone or any bone! You're such a wimp you can't even raise your pinky without Lilith's help. Maybe the scientists made a mistake, maybe you were supposed to be a girl."

"Enough! I am sick and tired of you going after Adrian. You can't hate on him because he has a heart and you don't Maya! How do you think I feel, seeing the two people I care about arguing constantly? I can't take it anymore! Until you guys can get along or tolerate each other consider me gone. Maya you just lost your best friend and Adrian you lost your girlfriend." I fume.

As I rant Alai picks up on my anger and snarls at Sugar, who never refuses a fight. She's much like Maya stubborn and violent.

"Lily I -"

"No!" I say pulling away from Adrian, "I'm totally done fixing your guy's problems! I'm done choosing sides. If I can't have both of you, I can't have either of you!"

By the time I finish, I'm whimpering. Orlando comes in and sees us. I look at him, then flee to my room.

I slam the door and lock it. I slide down the door and hug my stomach. Tears go down my face.
