Chapter 11: The Black City Part 1

Atlas Academy briefing room. Where atlesian huntsmen receive their mission assignments. The room contains a podium and rows of seats arranged in a semi-circle around a table of CCT terminals. Atlas Huntsmen job boards are situated along the walls. Behind the podium is a screen for detailing mission information.

The doors to the room slide open. Three first year teams gather inside gradually filling the seats. Before them stands Moranda uploading information to the large screen in front of them. Beside her stands three of Atlas Academy's professors; Morse, Karpos, and Slate.

Karpos stands relaxed compared to his colleagues. Messy yet silky platinum-blond hair adorns his head complimented by a pair of piercing blue eyes. A man of average height with a lean athletic build. His outfit also stands in heavy contrast to his colleagues. A tall reddish-brown coat with a high collar that nearly covers his mouth when closed with jade green cross shaped buttons. This is followed by a white dress shirt that's been altered to be more form fitting and have sleeves removed neatly. A dark brown belt wrapped around his waist that finishes with a vibrant jade green belt buckle in the shape of a fig leaf. Ending black dress pants and black shoes with red laces neatly tucked away. Several leather armor plating decorates his body. With the plates on his forearms having a barely visible dark blue design engraved in the pattern of trailing vines. He also wears a tattoo of a black capital A the back of his left hand.

Moranda steps out before them, pivoting on her heel and faces them. "Students, this will be your first academy operation. In our line of work, we are frequently required to work alongside other huntsmen to achieve a greater goal. Each one of us has a part to play and this mission will serve as an example for those to come. The three teams before me will be visiting the failed expansion of Prometheus. An originally largely successful city built entirely underground that fell to a catastrophic event. Today the city houses thousands of grimm that have taken claim of the place. This operation's primary goal is to clear out residential districts. This operation should be considered rather threatening to first years; thus, each team will be accompanied by an expert huntsman. Team JSPR (Jasper) will be accompanied by Professor Slate. Team CBLT (Cobalt) will have Professor Karpos. Lastly Team CAMO (Camo) will have Professor Morse. You have your assignment. Good luck to you all." Moranda leaves the area muttering under her breath. "Have fun with those lunatics Ian."

The three teams leave the academy coming back the air ships outside that greeted them on their first day. Three airships wait in tow. They climb aboard and before they know it the hum of the engines dulls to a light noise from inside and they take off. Professor Karpos takes a seat across from most of the team, sitting next to Bianca. He leans back arms crossed and attempts to sleep.

Tanaka looks over the briefing notes on his scroll, "So Prometheus, it was an expansion that was destroyed by subterranean grimm right? Like mt. Glenn?"

"In simple terms, yes." Bianca tells him.

"What do you mean?" He asks.

Lapis types away on her scroll. "It was largely successful with heavy city defenses on every street."

"Don't most expansions fall to the grimm though? What's different about this one?" Tanaka questions.

"The grimm involved." Cobalt interjects.

Karpos clears his throat. "Prometheus city. An Atlas expansion into the farther regions of Solitas. Originally a profitable dust mine it was later converted and expanded underground to create what Atlas believed to be the next stage of their kingdom's survival. Subterranean grimm were constant threats so the first families moved to the city were Atlas soldiers. Move the soldiers, take the family with them. Additional renovations were made including a large R&D facility. Bianca."
