"So are you new around here or something?" Matt asked, noticing how Jon was looking around.
"O-oh, I don't get out much." Jon confessed.
"So you've never been out here?" When Jon nodded, Matt let out a dramatic gasp.
"You have to let me show you around!" Matt said.
"But what about your mirror?" Jon asked.
"It can wait!" And with that, Matt grabbed Jon's hand and sped off.
"Where are we going?" Jon asked, chasing after Matt.
"You'll see!"
...
Matt walked into the pet store, still holding Jon's hand. Blushing, he let go.
"Welcome!" The store clerk called, waving in a friendly manner. Matt usually came here often just to play with the animals.
"Hello, Mr. Buchekof." Matt smiled.
"Who's that with you?" He asked.
"Oh, this is Jon. Jon, meet-" Matt turned around to introduce Jon, but he wasn't there.
"Jon?" Matt called, looking around.
"Matt, look at them!" Matt looked over to see Jon pressing his face against the glass of the ferret cage.
"They're so cute!" He said, watching the brown and tan one scurry to the glass. Mr. Buchekof chuckled.
"That ones name is Ranger. He's a lovable boy, aren't you?" He said, picking up the small ferret. Ranger gave a little bark, scurrying up his sleeve and out the other one. He stopped in his hand and looked at Jon, giving a little bark.
"I think he likes you." The store clerk said. Jon smiled.
"Can I hold him?" He asked tentatively.
"Sure!" Jon held his hands out and Ranger scurried up into his sleeve.
"That tickles!" Jon giggled. Matt blushed, watching his friend. Ranger poked his head out of the neck of Jon's shirt, giving a happy little squeal.
"You know what, I think you should keep him. He seems to have taken a liking to you." He said.
"Really?" Jon said, surprised.
"Sure! I haven't been able to find him a home, so I think it's time for him to find someone. I'll give you him for free, and give you a starter kit, too."
"Oh, Mr. Buchekof, really, I can pay for some of it." Matt offered.
"No, no, it's fine. It's my gift to you for being my best customer." He said to Matt with a smile.
"You're really too much." Matt smiled.
A few minutes later, Matt and Jon had gotten the needed material for Ranger. In the back, Matt had found a blue hoodie that said, 'I love my furry friend' with paw prints on it and secretly bought it for Jon. He walked over to Jon, smiling.
"Here, a present for you." Matt smiled.
"M-me?" Jon said, blushing. Matt nodded, handing Jon the hoodie. He slipped it on, smiling.
"And here's Ranger." Mr. Buchekof held the ferret out, who immediately scurried up Jon's sleeve and sat in his hood. Jon and Matt smiled, grabbing the bags and walking out, calling back their thanks to Mr. Buchekof.
