hey guys! i kinda crash landed into this fandom and there's really no going back at this rate.
this is something i wrote to try and get back in the groove of things, and also to sort of get out all my emotions and stuff. i know it isn't what i usually write, and it's a totally new fandom, and i should be focusing on my other works, but i hope you enjoy! the untamed/mdzs are really cool, and i thought this was the perfect way to get back in the swing of writing!
the boys get a little ooc in this, but i had fun writing it. also, sorry ouyang zizhen isn't here... i feel bad for not including him, but i couldn't figure out how to add him in.

"Jingyi!" Sizhui called, eyes scanning the mountains. They'd gone down to a rural village at the outskirts of Lanling; the small Bai Clan had been facing terrible troubles with evil spirits. The Lan Sect was already nearby for one of the Jin Sect's festivals, so the juniors decided to help with what should have been a simple problem.
But something went wrong.
"Jingyi!" Sizhui shouted. He couldn't find the other boy anywhere.
The two of them had just been doing a routine sweep of the mountains where the Bai Clan told them the evil spirits originated from. Jingyi had been right beside him.
"Jingyi, where are you?!" Sizhui knew he should be keeping calm, and he was trying his best, but Jingyi had disappeared without a trace. It was more than nerve-wracking, considering Jingyi never went quietly.
Sizhui stopped running, coming to a halt right at the edge of an open field. The Bai Clan said this was the exact spot their problems had started.
He could swear he could hear voices—just barely whispers, but hundreds of them, like they were calling out to him, pulling him in.
Sizhui's grip tightened around his sword.
"I'm not leaving without my friend," he spoke to the air, but he knew. He knew there were spirits here, waiting, watching, for the right moment to strike.
A cloud of black smoke came barrelling toward him. Sizhui unsheathed his sword and slashed it, before realising there were another five headed his way. He fought them off with his best effort, but soon there were dozens upon him, surrounding him from all sides.
Where the hell were the rest of his team? Surely they'd realised something was wrong.
Sizhui took a deep breath, steadying himself. He wished Hanguang-jun and Senior Wei were here; they would know what to do. But they were far away in Yunmeng, dealing with official sect business (which meant Senior Wei was probably in the middle of annoying Sect Leader Jiang to the point of contemplation of murder); even if they saw the signal flare, they'd never arrive in time.
"On your right!" a voice yelled. Sizhui looked up just in time to slash through another evil spirit. He craned his neck to find the source of the voice, but he already knew who it was.
"Jin Ling!" he cried, throwing his sword through another three spirits. "Jin Ling, where are you?"
"I'm right here, are you blind?" Jin Ling snapped as he fought through the storm of black, only to end up pressed back-to-back with Sizhui. The Lan disciple could only smile in relief. "Where in the world is that nuisance? He's always glued to your side."
Sizhui's smile vanished. "Jingyi disappeared. I don't know to where; I think it has something to do with these spirits. We thought this was going to be simple; we were just doing a sweep of the territory."
