Slowly getting more happening. I think the next chapter will be from the Task's Force POV for a while, so we'll see! Hope whoever reads this enjoys it.::::
Her POV:
Light had taken to meeting me after work a few times a week. I kept telling him it was unnecessary and highly inappropriate, but he insisted using the excuse he was showing me around and doing his job as my friend. Even though he acted strange at times, seemed distracted, and tended to make up excuses to rush off for a while, I didn’t exactly hate his company. It was nice to have human interaction with someone close to my age and could hold up an intelligent conversation. By now I knew he was in last year before University, he had a sister, he wanted to work for the police force like his Chief father, and he was one of the smartest people in his grade. I also knew most of his time was spent studying and didn’t have many hobbies that I could tell so far.
“So, what do you like doing?” I asked him, my hands wrapped around the paper cup that held my mocha. I glanced over at the brunette and sipped at the hot beverage as we walked back towards my place. I had been to his home a few times, met his mother and sister, and stayed for dinner. It was a little awkward, and I kept having to insist to his sister we weren’t dating or anything like that. I liked her, though. She was sweet and made me smile, so I didn’t mind all her questions about America and Yale and being older.
Light flicked a chunk of hair out of his eyes with the hand that wasn’t holding his tea. “Studying,” He smiled.
“Light Yagami! That doesn’t count!” I said with a laugh, gently shoving his arm. “Really, though. All you ever do is study. Aren’t your entrance exams coming up soon?” I asked.
“Yes, actually. How’d you know?” He asked, eyebrow rising as he looked at me.
I shrugged my shoulders. “I think I heard one of my coworkers saying something. Her daughter is your age,” I said. “Though I must admit, I do tend to forget you’re younger than me.”
Light smirked. “Do you now?” He asked as he turned on my street.
“Don’t think anything of it. You’re just smarter than most, as well as more mature,” I frowned at him.
Light just shrugged back at me in response. We walked over to my building and headed up the stairs to my floor. My neighbor down the hall was moving boxes out of his apartment as I fumbled with my keys.
“So, do I get to come in? We can study together,” Light smiled.
Just as I went to respond, my phone began to ring. I put the keys in my pocket and pulled out the phone, which said blocked on the caller ID.“Oh, hold on, Light, sorry,” I frowned. “Hello?”
“Angel Gandee?” It was a male voice, and he sounded bored.
“Yes, who is this?” I responded.
“Keep casual. You may call me Ryuzaki. I will explain. Are you alone?”
I pushed my fringe out of my face. “No, sorry. I didn’t recognize your number,” I said giving a fake laugh that I was hoping was convincing enough for Light, who was eying me.
“Good job so far. Can you become alone immediately? This is important,” This Ryuzaki replied.
“Of course, yes. One moment please,” I said with a smile. I covered the phone and looked at Light. “Light, I’m so sorry. It’s about work, I have to take this. Maybe next visit. I’ll help you study for your entrance exams. Thanks for the coffee and walking me home,” I smiled.
Light watched me and nodded slowly. “Yes, okay. I understand, Angel. I’ll see you soon,” He said before walking off.I unlocked the door to my apartment, put the phone back to my ear, and slipped inside.
“What do you need?” I asked as I locked my door. I sat my belongings down and moved to grab a soda from the fridge.
“Like I said, I am Ryuzaki. I am working on an investigation, and I think you could be helpful,” He informed me.
“Okay, no really. I’m not from here, and I don’t know anything, so I doubt I would be of any help,” I frowned, growing suspicious. I sat on the couch with my soda.
“You know more than you think, Angel. You could be in danger… I could provide you the safety if you provide me with the information.”
“So, I’m supposed to believe you? A complete stranger on the phone? Really, do you think I’m stupid?” I asked, eyes rolling.
“No, quite the opposite. There’s a 34% chance you’ll agree to helping me by the end of this phone call, and it’s due to your intelligence,” Ryuzaki replied, his tone still bored.
“Cut the crap, ‘Ryuzaki,’” I said, stating his name almost sarcastically.
“You have been hanging out with someone who is potentially dangerous. In fact, they are currently under investigation. You have a great opportunity to help out the investigation team and bring a criminal to justice,” Ryuzaki told me, and even though his tone still sounded bored, there was another tone masked underneath that I couldn’t quite figure out over the phone.
