Later that night, after Senjuro left to go sleep, Kyojuro was getting ready for bed as well. Eri had been oddly quiet as she stared outside, and when Rengoku spoke it seemed to startle her. "Did you really mean that you didn't care about how I felt about the situation?" His voice was soft, but he was being serious.
"I meant what I said about saving you if your life was at risk. And it isn't because I don't care about how you feel about it, it just wouldn't be fair to you, or myself, to let you die." Her attention never faltered from the sound of his voice, but her gaze was still pointed outside.
"What's that supposed to mean?" He questioned unsure of what to think.
Eri didn't answer, she just sat there like a statue, gazing outside at nothing. Her breathing was soft and even, almost as if she was sleeping, but he could tell she was awake. "Kyojuro, what do you think of me?" She asked suddenly as he was about to lay in bed. "If you had a choice to put me in a category, those being friend, foe, partner, and family, which one would you choose?"
Kyojuro saw it as a strange question, and even more so coming from her. "I would put you in the partner and family category." It was only then she turned around to look him in the eyes. When he saw them, they reminded him of the eyes of someone on the verge of death.
"I suppose so." Was all she replied before looking back outside. Kyojuro didn't like this, so he walked over to where she sat, with perfect posture, on her knees. He sat behind her and laid his head on her shoulder snaking his hands around her waist. "What are you doing?" She asked with a stressed voice. She could feel his shoulders move up in a shrug.
"I remember you saying I relax you. Your posture was way to perfect for you to of been relaxed." He explained simply and closed his eyes. She smiled and soon relaxed her back letting herself sink into his touch.
"Goofball. I don't know many people who would go this far just to comfort me." She could feel him smile smugly.
"I care about you after all, why would I not?" She chuckled slightly and leaned into him, moving her feet from under her and sitting more comfortably.
"You should probably go sleep, Kyojuro." She spoke softly.
"Can't I sleep like this?" She smiled, not wanting to refuse the tired man. She sighed in reluctance, telling his fine, and didn't bother him again.
At some point, she had fallen asleep as well and the two were laid on the floor. Eri looked like a roly poly, while Kyojuro had his chest pressed firmly against her back. His face in the mess of hair sprawled out on the floor, and his body outlined hers, with his arms still around her firmly.
Kyojuro was the first to wake up, and saw how they had slept the majority of the night. He enjoyed it, and didn't want to get up. That's when he knew what his father said was true. He knew she was the one for him. It didn't matter that she was a demon and he was a human, the only thing that mattered was that she was the one for him. He couldn't help but want to stay there with her the whole day, but he knew he couldn't. He slowly moved himself away from her to keep her from waking, then picked her up carefully, and placed her on his bed. He then put on a shirt and left the room soundlessly.
"Is Eri-san not joining us for breakfast?" Senjuro questioned.
Kyojuro shook his head, "she's still sleeping. On that note, may I speak with you later, father?"
"Do whatever."
Kyojuro took that as hope and began eating his food, he had several things to attend to that day. As soon as he was done, he excused himself and walked back towards his room to check on Eri, mumbling to himself. When he got to the door, he quietly opened it and found her still sound asleep, but she had brought the blankets to her face and seemed to be smelling them while she was sleeping. Kyojuro thought it was adorable, and didn't bother her. He decided he would go on patrol for a bit, and left a note for Eri. When she woke up, she looked confused, then on closer inspection she could smell the scent of Kyojuro surrounding her. She didn't move, for two reasons, one being she was cold, and the other because she didn't want to stray from his scent.
