I am a normal high school girl. My daily routine was going to school and coming back home. My family consists of my mother, my princely brother and me. I have never known about my father and ever since I was little I didn't bother about it.

I woke up on my 17th birthday very excited but my family were not as excited as I was. Their faces were very grim but once they saw me they wished me happy birthday. I hugged my brother and mother out of joy.

As usual my brother cooked an amazing banquet for breakfast. He is a brilliant cook and I love eating his tasty meals.

He is always cheerful and very protective of me. Ever since I was small, my brother was always by my side. He was the only one that could get me to stop crying. Since childhood, he protected me sometimes from stray dogs then from bullying and more. Slowly, the image of a prince to me became my brother, Adam.

Whoever will marry him was sure to be the luckiest lady in the world. Sometimes I wished we were not siblings because I want to be that lucky lady.

I was excited for the party we were going to have this afternoon for my birthday.

"Brother, I want you to bake me my birthday cake, please." I begged.

"Don't worry, Ariel. I plan to do that," My brother smiled while patting my head.

I took my leave to get ready for the party but I noticed some lingering tension between my mother and brother.

I only got to know what the tension was about in the evening. As soon as the party was over, my mother and my brother came to my room.

They looked pretty tensed so I got worried as to what was going to befall me.

"Ariel, Today I have something to tell you. It is a tale from long ago." My mother said awaiting my reaction.

I did not bother to interrupt since I was curious about what she wanted to tell me. I looked at my brother and his unfazed reaction told me that he knew what I was about to be told. Before I could protest as to why he knew something I didn't as I was only a year younger than him, my mother continued.

"Once there was a professor who studied the abnormalities of the world and..."

"What are the abnormalities?" I questioned.

"Dear, let me finish first," My mother gave a fake smile which told me to shut up.

I hated my brother for secretly chuckling.

My mother continued her story,"Abnormalities like magical powers, demons and vampires. The professor then confirmed their existence and discovered a grave, dangerous secret of the world. He got his hands on a magical book that is said to have powers enough to rule the world."

"Why are you telling me a fairy tale? I am a grown up now," I complained.

She stopped for a second then took a breath and then continued again while ignoring me.

"The professor had two daughters who helped him on his research. He then entrusted the magical book to his eldest daughter. As soon as she touched the book, it dissolved into a bright light and fused with her. The professor was extremely heartbroken when he thought his daughter was dead since her heart wasn't responding,"

"The demon king disguised himself as a handsome young man to get his hands on the magical book. He allied himself with the professor by saving the girl. He fell in love with her but his intention still remained the same. Their union gave birth to a baby girl who was born with the magical book in her which she inherited from her mother. The demon king thought that as long as his daughter was with him, he could rule the world."
