Babysitting

Mess! The TV was smashed, bread and oats were scattered like flowers on the floor, the curtains had been ripped and torn, milk was spilled on the sofa and I was locked in the bedroom.

This was an expected outcome when I was told to babysit my naughty, little twin brothers.

It all started when I bit off more than I could chew. I was foolish enough to have agreed to look after the house and babysit the two demons. The moment our new, shiny, red car boomed away with our parents, the two red haired ogres looked at me like I was their prey.

They examined me with narrowed eyes which gave me shivers. Upon seeing my scared expression, they looked at each other and then gave me a frighteningly similar sadistic grins. That made me back away a bit as I tried to think of their plot.

It did not take them an instant to brust out in laughter and soon they were on the floor, clutching their stomachs. I felt depressed since I knew what they were actually laughing at.

"Hey Ecvar, can you believe that this scrawny, antisocial and failure of a human being is supposed to look after great beings like us?" One of the twins, Edward said while loudly laughing out like a villain.

That got me upset even more. I felt ashamed of being a scrawny, antisocial lowlife. They continued laughing like I was an amusing joke. Maybe my existence was a joke itself.

'No, don't get discouraged because of these demons,' I told myself.

As a result, I felt the need to take back my honour that was hanging on a thread.

'I will fight these cold blooded monsters till my last breath and save my honour,' I promised to myself.

"Both of you, sit, now!" I commanded.

I was surprised to see them obeying me and naturally I thought that my harsh tone was working on them. Was I wrong? Yes, I was!

They both had mocking grins stuck like glue on their villainous faces. It was really creepy. Dread washed over me with a wave and I feared the reasons behind the eerie grins.

I laid out a slice of bread with milk for each on the dining table. Edward looked at his meal grimly. He threw the bread and dropped the glass of milk on the floor with a crashing sound. Ecvar imitated Edward.

The milk fell on their shirts and they started yelling out.

"I want a change of clothes, now!'' Ecvar demanded.

I rushed into the bedroom when right behind me, the door locked with a click. There was a window with bars from which I witnessed the wrong deeds they committed. I was imprisoned by these demons and there was no escape.

They played with milk, tossed out oats and devoured packets of candies that my mother packed away from these creatures.

I screamed to be free while they tried to figure out how to switch on the TV. Edward got angry and hit the TV with my baseball bat.

'Ah! Was there really nothing that I could have done to save both my bat and the TV '

My helpless plea was heard by none.

At last, I accepted that I was a failure and not worthy of being called a man as they ripped the curtains and were crushed underneath.

That was when all hope of mankind was truly lost.
