Elliot's POV (the girl)
"Brrrrrrrr" the whistle sounded grabbing my attention as I look up to see the referee signaling three minutes.
I put my water bottle down and ran over to coach and the rest of my team. He had already started taking about our defense, but I didn't pay much attention because I already knew it seeing as how I was the one who came up with it.
Somewhere between the talk I began to stare into space. I didn't know how long I was staring down at my old blue and white pair of Jordan's until I heard a throat clear.
I looked up to see the whole team looking at me.
"What?" I questioned.
"Your speech, " Beverly inquired, making me groan.
"Why do I always have to do the speech?"
"Because you are the captain Ellie. I think you have forgotten why we chose you. Remember, we didn't just choose you because of your mad skills—
I snickered at the last part interrupting him.
Coach continued after an eye roll, "—we chose you because you had the most confidence in us, you believed when nobody else did"
I let out a huge sigh knowing he was right. I was always there for my team, I can't stop now.
"And plus your speeches always have us pumped befor we play so come on!" Coach shouted making the whole team cheer in agreement.
Looking at each and every player I began,"Girls this is it, the game we have been training for, for the last semester. This game is gonna batter and bruise us but no matter what don't give up, push until the very end. If we want to win this we have to give it our all, every practice and tiresome gym training session will be worth it when we can finally call that trophy ours.
We are a team and we will stay as one, lose or win as one, and most of all play as one.
Today is the day we make history for Eastside High, because today is the day the first ever girls basketball team wins nationals. So girls with out further a-due let's go show Norkem high how to kick some ass, eastside style."
Aloud cheer abrubted for our group making me smile.
"Eastside on three. One, two, three. Eastside!" We shouted.
We all separated to get on the court. My shoes squeaking against the clean floor, making me smile because I loved that sound.
After taking my position I heard coach shouting my name.
"Let's go Elliot!"
I gave him a thumbs up after laughing. Coach has always been the softy of the group if it weren't for his age I swear you would think he was still in high school, but when it came down to matches he was here for business. Once he was in his 'zone' there's no getting him out. Thats why I'm glad to have him as a coach.
Focusing back onto the game I let my eyes roam through the court. Our opponents were quite tall but I didn't let that faze me. My dad always used to say use your height to your advantage. I smiled at the memories.
The referee came onto the court with a ball in his hand, ready to do the toss up. I didn't do the toss up because I was and I quote "to short" which made me mad because you can never be too short to play ball. I shook those thoughts out of my head and focused back on the game.
Once the whistle blow we were off. Liz won the toss up, thankfully. Passing the ball to Peyton who then dribbled until the three point line dogging players as she went, but stopped upon seeing that the other team was already back on defense.
