The Night Sky

It was a cold cloudy night. A gust of wind swept through the streets sending a slight chill down my spine. I grasped and pulled my leather jacket closer to me, trying to preserve whatever body heat I still had.

Dim streetlights lined the streets, casting weak shadows which stretched out into the darkness. The night seemed still, less the sound of my footsteps which echoed down the empty roads and alleyways.

Each breath I took sent a smoke cloud spiraling into the night sky and I shivered more with each passing minute. I wanted nothing more than to relax in the warmth and comfort of my room.

Despite all that, I suddenly stopped dead in my tracks, right in the middle of the street.

All sounds ceased and the night was utterly still. I slowly tilted my head up and stole a glance at the sky.

A sense of awe washed over me, leaving me speechless. Whatever cold and shivers that had previously racked my body, had now left me entirely.

I stood there unmoving, staring, wordless.

A single star, stood bright against the backdrop of the darkness.

Her light fought fervently against the darkness which threatened to overwhelm her. Her light shined bravely against the think plumes of clouds that tried to snuff her out. The lone star stood strong against it all. Her light a guiding beacon for those who have lost their way.

She was just a measly speck in the vast black sky, yet her light shined so bright. Her light pierced right through the darkness, the clouds and the cold.

She may have been a lone star, alone in a sky full of stars. Yet she emerged unfazed and never once let the darkness seal away her light.

To others, it may have had been a simple sight, a tiny white dot in a never-ending black sea. Nothing magical, nothing significant, nothing that brought tears to their eyes. But to me, somehow, she brought me hope.

To me, it was a picture perfect moment.

I raised my camera with my fingers that no longer trembled and with a newfound surge of energy, I aimed and... Click.
