Thick dark clouds littered the sky, devouring the sun and her warm rays. The city was pitched into darkness, a dark shadow creeping through the streets.
The winds howled, causing the trees to sway violently. Each gust threatened to uproot the trees. Stray leaves were blown and scattered all around. The leaves didn't stand a chance.
In the distance, an ominous rumble of thunder echoed. The roads came to a stand still, not a single living soul loitered the street. The once boisterous city had now become a ghost town, all it's inhabitants seeking refuge in the comfort of their own homes. I was no different.
A flash of lightning split the heavens and almost at once the downpour began.
Huge fat drops of rain fell from above, crashing heavily onto the pavements below. The sound of the falling rain steadily grew louder as they struck my roof, producing a mind-numbing continuous patter.
All across the road, dim street lights lit up, casting a soft faint glow onto the pavement.
With every passing moment, the rain fell heavier and heavier, slowly obscuring my view of the outside world.
Slowly I stood up from my leather armchair and strode towards the window. I surveyed the landscape that lay before me and held a cup of steaming hot chocolate in my hand.
The torrential downpour outside was a perfect juxtaposition to the calmness and warmth of the room inside.
Carefully I positioned my cup of hot chocolate against the window. The red porcelain mug rested snugly on the white window sill, a small trail of steam floating listlessly in the air.
While the view outside was obscured by the streaks of water that clung to it, the mug inside sat comfortably, reflecting the light from my bedside lamp, without a care in the world.
I strolled over to my bedside table, grabbed my camera and prepared to take the photo for the day.
The gentle lighting of my room against the falling rain that didn't seem to stop. The bright red mug against the dull orange glow of the street lamps. The calmness of the room against the chaos of the storm. The balance was perfect.
It was a picture perfect moment.
I gently raised my camera and carefully took my time with this photo. I savoured the palette colours that lay before me and prepared to take the shot.
The room was still and a scent of hot chocolate wafted in the air. I steadied myself and the sound of rain was punctuated with a single... Click.
