Here's the next part of the story, I hope everyone is enjoying so far. Don't forget to comment on the story, I'd really love to hear what you guys think of the plot so far and the chracters too. Is Alex likeable so far? What does Dane seem like to you? What about Aaliyah? :) (sorry if there are some mistakes in this chapter, I wanted to quickly upload since it was nearing two weeks since my last update, i'll edit everything soon)

I sat at my desk trying to read over the notes I had made in History but the flashing green light was begging me to divert my attention to whatever the notification on my phone was rather than my precious schoolwork. I knew I had to focus for my exams but the green light was courageously persistent which meant that within a few moments I was tapping in my passcode , forgetting all about 16th century castles.

I had a few messages from Aaliyah but what really caught my eye was the Instagram notification. DXN_ has requested to follow you read my screen. Curiously I clicked onto the account.21 Photos 1259 Followers, 629 Following and in the small little circle I managed to recognise the boy with the green eyes and curly brownish black hair that I had grown used to in the past few days. With a strange feeling of some sort of proud and satisfaction I scrolled down his page. A shout-out, a few pictures with his friends, a football photo, the Instagram customary food post and of course a few pictures of himself.

Good thing his profile wasn’t private.

I immediately clicked on the first photo of him. He was out somewhere in the dark wearing an all-black outfit with his hair combed back in a vintage sort of hairstyle. His amazing green eyes seemed foreign and mystic in the dark picture and his chiselled face was glowing with the flash of the camera.

He was so hot!

I almost drooled as I spent the following 15 minutes looking at the pictures on his page before snapping myself back to reality.

Too hot for you darling.

I accepted his follow request and then scrolled down my own page; I had a few pictures of myself, none really bad but none really stunning either. Not that it mattered, even if Dane did look at my page he would already be aware of what I looked like and I was sure that he wasn’t looking at me in that way. Besides, Dane had been at our school for almost a week and it already seemed obvious who his new ‘clique’ would be

Serena was definitely sure she wanted him and seemed to be talking to him a lot during breaks and in the lessons they shared and the boys seemed to have pretty much accepted him which I now realised was probably due to his football talents. Dane and I however, did share a few lessons together and sometimes we spoke to each other but it was nothing major. I guess he was just being polite seeing as I talked to him and was nice to him. It wasn’t a big deal.

After spending some more time on Instagram I went back to studying for a while. Today the house was more or less quiet. My auntie had brought my little cousin Kayla to be watched over and my mum was busy talking down the phone to one of her annoying friends. Outside the sun was shining, illuminating the insides of my room but one close look outside and I could tell that it was still cold, typical for English weather but even so it was a pretty nice Sunday.

“Lexie can we watch a movie?” Kayla asked with her brown eyes open in a pleading manner. I gave her a light smile and agreed. I didn’t really have much to do and even though I was well above age, I still liked watched the odd Barbie movie here and there. I mean what can I say? Those plot lines were interesting!

   Halfway through the movie, Barbie was stuck trying to find a way to the enchanted castle while Kayla and I were munching intensely on popcorn when my phone went off. Wiping my hands on a random tissue I unlocked it to find a direct message on Instagram from…oh my God…Dane. What on earth did he want? A blank picture was sent and the caption read; hey Alexandria whats up? I raised a sceptical eyebrow then with a thumping heart tapped in a simple reply;

Alexy: not much just watching a movie, u ok?

In less than a minute he replied back.

DXN_: same i’m just revising and stuff but yeah I was just wondering if you knew any good sixth form and colleges around the area, seeing as it’s October I really need to start looking but obv I don’t know any.

I sighed, for a slight moment I actually tricked myself into believing that he wanted a real conversation with me. Gosh, I really needed to stop getting my hopes up with this boy.

Alexy: basically try all the grammars they’re good and a few colleges like Wilmington College and Shards End they’re the best, highest results I’m trying to get into Wilmington tho.

I tapped back to him. Again; after a few moments he replied

DXN_: nah, I’ve already had a shit experience with grammar schools, I don’t plan on staying another two years at a place full of smartass snobs. Why aren’t you going to a grammar I’m sure you could get in

I giggled. I agreed with what he was saying and understood exactly what he was saying. Personally I had good grades, if I really wanted to go to a prestigious grammar school I had a fair chance of getting in but that kind of environment wasn’t for me. They were full of smartass snobs.

Alexy: same reason as you, I don’t need that type of competition plus I don’t really think I’d fit in.

DXN_: cool kids don’t fit in Alexandria

Alexy: i’m not a cool kid Dane

DXN_: well I saw you holding a copy of the catcher in the rye last week and that’s a cool book and well cool kids read cool books and they have cool names like Alexandria.

At this point I was smiling and blushing to myself like some sort of maniac. Was this flirting or just being nice? Dane already had people who he could almost class as friends and I wasn’t exactly anyone special so why he was even bothering to talk to me, let alone in that type of way was beyond me. But still, I didn’t want to get myself excited. Dane was being friendly, so after I finished gushing and being an idiot I texted him back and we continued talking for a time that seemed to be ridiculously long. By the time it was nearing the end of our conversation I was on the edge of my seat waiting for a fast reply dripping with his witty humour.

I found out quite a bit about Dane talking to him. He was a good conversationalist who despite having problems which he hinted to be quite serious at his previous school he was pretty cool. And not just the normal type of cool, the proper cool. The type of cool that makes you feel calm and open. He told me a lot about himself like how he often liked to spend a lot of time alone and how he was an avid reader hence why he noticed the book in my hand which should’ve been weird but it wasn’t, we hadn’t talked so much beforehand to tell each other so much but we did and it felt completely normal.

In the end I ended up giving him my number after he politely asked. I still had that voice in the back of my head telling me to stop and that he didn’t like me in the way I was secretly hoping he did but I blocked it out. Even if he wasn’t flirting and didn’t like me, it would be nice to have a male friend, wouldn’t it?
