THE MUSEUM OF ANTIQUITIES
CAIRO, EGYPT
1926"Where -- where did you get this?"
"On a dig... down in Thebes."
"My god..."
Evie's voice floated through the room, quiet shock layering her words. Jonathon had transferred the key to her hands, and had proceeded to hover over her eagerly, eyes dancing with delight. Even he could tell he'd found something remarkable by Evie's reaction, and as Florence had drawn closer, she too had feigned surprise. "Jonathon, my god, did you actually find something?" She breathed out.
"Flor, come here," Evie urged, glancing up. "Look at this. I believe Jonathon actually discovered something."
"My whole life, Evie, I've never found anything!" He exclaimed, raising his head to look at their older sister. "Flor, pleeeeease tell me I found something!" As far as Evie and Jonathon were concerned, Florence was a full-fledged archaeologist who had been all over Egypt and was highly revered by other archaeologists around the world.
"Jonathon..." Came Evie again, and her eyes met Florence's before darting back down to the key in her hand. She pressed the sides, and Florence took in a sharp breath as the top of the object suddenly popped open. Eight parts, cut odd almost like puzzle pieces, formed a star around the paper in the middle. Or papyrus, rather, and Florence knew exactly what it held. She was a step closer, but she had to be careful. One slip up and there would be the Medjai to deal with. And at this point, they needed to be considered dangerous to her.
"...I think you found something," Florence finished for her sister.
The torches lit along the walls in the room suddenly flickered as a grin swept over her lips.
It was gone as quickly as a cloud of dust in the Sahara could disappear.

"You see the cartouche there?"
Terrence Bey. The name brought a scowl to Florence's lips -- or would have, had she not been in the company of her siblings. His office was stuffy. Thankfully the fire wasn't burning but there was not enough air circulating through the room. After her lifetime, the heat didn't bother her. It was the man who currently held the office that made her so unhappy.
As she stepped into the room behind an excited Jonathon and Evie, she felt a shudder sweep through her. Protective symbols from Isis and Horus hung on the walls, and for a moment, she grit her teeth. The urge to destroy those symbols to quit the quiet burning at her skin was overwhelming, but she could manage. If she could survive in the desert for well over 3,000 years, surely she could stand ten minutes in a room with symbols from weaker gods. Didn't this foolish man know? If Horus had truly been able to kill Set, he would have. Horus' protection was meager at best.
"It's the official royal seal of Seti the First, I'm sure of it!" Florence's attention snapped back to her sister as Evie rounded the desk corner, a little spring in her step. Jonathon was fidgeting in front of the desk as usual, hopeful but useless. Florence preferred to stay a step back behind Jonathon, eyes now locking on the man sitting down.
She hated the Medjai warriors. So pesky.
They should have at least tried to hide better, really. She and her true brother Imhotep would easily be able to wipe them out, even the ones hiding in plain sight. It didn't take much to be able to identify them -- they all sat and stood a certain way. Like soldiers.
