Chapter 3 - Comes in Threes

I only slept a hour and a half before the alarm went off at 6am. I don't know what time I actually fell asleep due to the fact that my head was spinning with every thought possible to man. I knew the only option I had was to move on, to no longer be Avery and Leo, to just be Avery.

I tipped toed into the bathroom not wanting to wake Mrs. Lilith. Looking into the mirror I was not familiar with the face looking back at me. She looked defeated, and tired. I didn't realize that's how I felt until it showed through all the dry makeup.

My hair hadn't looked that bad, usually when I straighten my hair I get 3 days of use out of it with some dry shampoo. Luckily Leo had packed one of my cans, I guess there was perks to having a boyfriend who cared more about his hair then his girlfriend.

Okay maybe I'm still salty about the situation.

I used a makeup wipe to wash my face that was drenched of tears. I ran to get my makeup bag, I needed to salvage this and fast. I had to get to the subway by 7 am to be at work by 8:30. I roughly put some makeup up to cover last nights disaster.

Leo was also smart enough to pack my favorite outfit that I wear to work. It included a blazer, with the matching pants, my three layered gold necklace, and my black booties. He knew me so well, it was scary. It made me question how things went so wrong.

I walked out of the bathroom hoping that I had been quiet enough not to wake Mrs. Lilith up. But if her apartment was anything like mine, you could hear everything from every room.

I then started thinking, what would I do about Leo and I's apartment? Would it be mine, or his? I couldn't afford it alone, and I definitely could not live with Mrs. Lilith. You never think about what you will do when a relationship goes wrong because you never think yours will end.

These are the things they never teach you when you grow up. Kinda like taxes. Nobody prepares you for the real world situations.

When I walked back into the living room Mrs. Lilith was sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee. "Good morning sweetie" She smiled with that glowing smile that was so contagious.

"Good morning Mrs. Lilith, I am so sorry if I woke you" I felt horrible. This woman let me into her house, comforted me, and now made me coffee and here I am waking her up at the crack of dawn.

"Nonsense! I just wanted to make sure you were okay and send you off to work, I want you to know that you can stay as long as you need dear."

"Thank you for the offer, but as soon as I catch up on sleep I'll talk to Leo about the next steps with the apartment. I don't think there's any fixing of what he has done" I shrugged, it hurt to say it out loud because that meant it was really happening, my relationship that I had worked so hard on was over.

"I don't blame you hun, If you need to talk please don't hesitate." She walked over to the cabinet and poured some coffee in a thermos with some cream. "Here, take some for the road. Have a great day at work sweetheart. I left a sticky on you phone with my number in case you need something." She kissed my forehead and walked back to her room, turning when she reached the door to wave goodbye.

I couldn't believe this woman, but I am so glad I had someone by my side during this time. I hadn't even called my parents, but I really didn't want to talk about it right now. I figured I'd just call them after work tonight on my walk home.

By the time I reached the office with everyone's coffee it was nearly 7:50, this was as closest to being late that I have ever gotten. When I walked into the doors I was greeted by the Devil herself, Cheyenne.
